This didn't age wellGood morning Bears fans, Eberfluss is still your coach. Just gave the day after press conference.
One thing that was a bit odd was that they still had him do his regular Zoom press conference with the Bears beat reporters this morning. Kind of puts him in an awkward position if they were going to fire him anyway.
contrary to public health experts statements, it is apparently not Flus season....Flus is gone...
Mistake. He should be totally concentrating on getting Caleb better. Wins and losses for the rest of the year are meaningless.Looks like Thomas Brown has been named the interim head coach.
as a fellow Matt, I concurJust an enormous relief for Matts across the Midwest that we’ve stopped the bleeding on the brand damage Nagy and Eberflus were inflicting on us.
because just 4 weeks ago , he would have NEVER in a hundred years entered the conversation of becoming the next head coach if Eberflus had been hit by a busWhy wouldn't keeping him be a major consideration?
I would bet none of those things happen, to be clear. And when they don't, you read that clearly and move on. But testing it out is a useful use of the rest of this dead-end season.
....for real?Give me Belichek or Pete Carroll.
my ask would be a young (at least in mindset), offense oriented HC. need to be 100% on the CW development train for next 4yrs....for real?
Ask the Raiders how keeping the interim who "turned it around" worked out the next year.Show me a comfortable and excelling Caleb Williams, no backsliding on defense, and improved game operations and overall competence, and I dunno, 3-4 wins?
Why wouldn't keeping him be a major consideration?

Well that's where the hard-headedness comes in.Ask the Raiders how keeping the interim who "turned it around" worked out the next year.
The only other option that would have been under even moderate consideration would have been Richard Hightower and with how the special teams have looked the last few weeks, it should be plain to see why that would have been a mistake.Mistake. He should be totally concentrating on getting Caleb better. Wins and losses for the rest of the year are meaningless.
I cannot believe the Bears allowed him to give a Friday press conference, THEN fired him. That is another telltale sign of how mismanaged the franchise is.Good morning Bears fans, Eberfluss is still your coach. Just gave the day after press conference.

I'm trying to think of any reason you'd let a head coach give a morning press conference, then have to announce later that you fired him. If Kevin Warren and Ryan Poles didn't think Eberflus should be fired yesterday, then what changed between yesterday and today to make that decision while still allowing Eberflus to hold his press conference?
I'll always believe that Eberflus' post-game press conference where he 1) couldn't explain his reasoning around the final 35 seconds and 2) basically threw Caleb Williams under the bus to save his own skin was the last straw. It certainly would have been for me, and I probably would have fired him last night after returning to Halas Hall (I would not have pulled a Pat Haden and fired Kiffin on the tarmac at LAX like what happened at USC).
I know the fan chatter will likely focus on Ben Johnson. I don't know if he'll want the job. It sure seemed like he turned Washington down last year despite a new ownership group and the ability to hand-pick nearly any QB he wanted. If he's being as picky as it seems, I don't really see that the Bears' situation is one that would convince him to make the move to a head coach role.
You’ll never be able to completely convince me that the last 24 hours were not some type of performance art by Eberflus daring the Bears to fire him, thinking it would never be done. Like the second half of Groundhog Day or something.
The Bears basically didn't run any play. None that had a chance to succeed.Ironically, the Raiders showed today what can go wrong by running just one more play...
Wasn’t Poles the idiot that hired Flus in the first place?
He’s next on the Firing Watch.Wasn’t Poles the idiot that hired Flus in the first place?
Color me not optimistic moving forward in Halas Hall….
Raiders are gonna Raider, just like Bears are gonna Bear.Ironically, the Raiders showed today what can go wrong by running just one more play...
To be fair, he was hired on like a Monday and McKaskey gave him 3 names to choose from. Met with all 3 and I think Flus was hired by like Thursday.Wasn’t Poles the idiot that hired Flus in the first place?
