Most of these years Montini was in 5A or 6A. Montini won in 3A this year and the Byron team that beat them is a mutant and one of the few teams in this entire state that wouldn't humiliate themselves they played in Texas's UIL.Was the system broken for Byron when they beat Montini last year or if they wouldn’t have gotten stopped when they went for 2 this year.
Also with the multiplier Montini will be 4a next year. The schools enrollment has gone down to 488 kids. They also haven’t won a state championship since 2015.
BTW I am no expert in Cook County Geography, but here is the public school based in Lombard, IL.Most of these years Montini was in 5A or 6A. Althoff is even bigger joke being 1A. Their best recruit, I mean player, is from St Louis.

Congrats on ending your playoff drought against a school whose main town doesn't even have a McDonalds!
Oh yeah here is the other schools of Belleville compared to Lena, IL.![]()

I needed something to help me get rid of some Adrenalin after watching the Illini go to 9-3, so I did some really simple research
In the 9 previous playoff years (no playoffs in 2020), private schools won 26 of the 72 possible titles. This year, it will be 6 or 7 out of 8, depending on whether Loyola Academy wins 8A. That would make 33 out of 80 (if LA wins).
Among the public school winners in that 10-playoff period, East St. Louis and Rochester have 5 apiece, Wilmington and Lena-Winslow 3 apiece and Byron 2.
That’s 51 out of 80 possible titles between the private schools and those 5 public schools. (Sorry, I know there wasn’t supposed to be any math during the holiday weekend. )
My bad. They have 3 in that time period, so 54 out of 80 for the privates and those 6 public schools.Cary grove also has a few titles in there.
Actually I had an idea on twitter yestrday which I will copy and paste here,Lombard is in dupage and what does Glenbaed East have to do with Montini. You also realize how many private schools are close by that they have to compete with for kids. Not to mention they have compete with very good public schools for kids.
Iccp is in Elmhurst and the local public school is York. Does that mean Iccp should have to play in 8a even though they have 300 kids

I have a potential idea for private schools:Have the private school enrollment be the average enrollment of all schools of their municipality. For example Althoff Catholic's football enrollment should be the average of their, Belleville East, and Belleville West's enrollment. In this case:
AC- 288
BEHS- 2439
BWHS- 2111
Thus Althoff Catholic's football enrollment would be 1613.
I may give double weight to the enrollment numbers in another version.
Nothing for nothing, but Willowbrook in Villa Park pulls from Lombard as well. Glenbard East is the main highschool, but also will pull from Glendale Heights. Glen Elyn and the other Glenbard schools refuse to take any of the Glendale kids.BTW I am no expert in Cook County Geography, but here is the public school based in Lombard, IL.View attachment 37746

Glenbard West has had players from Glendale Heights for the last 30 years. Willowbrook and Glenbard East both made the playoffs again this year. Montini has about 30 Lombard kids on varsity but also draws from Villa Park, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Maywood, Bellwood and a few other suburbs.Nothing for nothing, but Willowbrook in Villa Park pulls from Lombard as well. Yeah but the percentage of those 68 titles out of the number of playoff teams from private schools is a much higher ratio. I think I read there are around 11% private schools in IHSA and they are winning around 33% of the football titles. In girls sports it probably is much higher.Just some quick math. Since the 01-02 school year, public schools lead 123-68 in amount of titles through the 8 classes. This will be only the second time in that span the private schools have won. Will be 2 out of the last 3 years.
Loyola Academy leading York 21-14 at the half, so it's at least a reasonably close game, as I suspected it might be. Go Dukes!

I think with private schools, just figure the multiplier and leave them there. Montini should probably never leave 4a or 5a. Bottom line. Brother Rice and Mount Carmel should probably never leave 8a. Joliet catholic and Naz should probably always be 6a. You get the drift. The bouncing around I think is rubbing people the wrong way and with these public schools taking it on the chin in the majority of classes 2 of the last 3 have them squirming.I forget the number off hand but private schools make up around 18% of the IHSA but they will at a higher rate than that. That’s an argument that I’ve heard.
Very good game and one of Yorks best players got hurt early in the game. Jimmy Connors is an impact player on both sides of the ball
I'm late to the party on this debate, but the situation does need to be addressed. The private schools won what.....7 out of the 8 class championships with East St Louis, a national powerhouse, being the outlier?I think with private schools, just figure the multiplier and leave them there. Seems like some easy fixes, but I'm sure whatever changes they make if they do will go too far. I don't want a separate championship. If you are going to go through the trouble of bringing these championship games to tv, you have to everything you can to bring your best teams to meet up in these games.
I also am in favor of public schools and private wanting a waiver to play up.
Another thing to keep in mind is that 90% of the private schools aren't an issue in football. The CCL/ESCC is just a different beast, especially with 24 teams all recruiting over each other to be the best football team in the state. They split the teams into 6 4-team conferences by quality/locality, and I wonder if it just makes sense for IHSA to classify each division up front (so the top 2 divisions are 8A, next two are 7A, bottom two 6A). Could be more spread out I guess as enrollment dips in some programs, but there's an inherent advantage in being in the CCL for football, for better or worse.I think with private schools, just figure the multiplier and leave them there.
