Reading between the posts, Hampton and Petty will compete for QB2 next year with edge to Hampton who has snaps. Boyd and Petty will compete for QB1 in 2026 with the loser likely transferring out with the edge going to Boyd based off the hype I have read, but he hasn't even practiced at the collegiate level.

It's nice to have our back up QB now. I hope we get a WR real soon.
Hampton I believe has two years more of eligibility. He would backup Luke next year and compete for the starting job in 2026.
I mean, feel free to come in and compete, but he isn't unseating Luke unless he gets hurt. I'm happy to have arguably one of the best backup Qb's in the nation though (and an Illinois kid is the icing on the cake). The face he has two years of eligibility is unbelievable because it pretty much guarantees we have legit competition for the starting job next year and the best man wins. I love having competent and smart coaches.

The two years of eligibility are interesting… Obviously you’d hope one of your home grown guys can take the mantle in 2026, but this is a huge insurance policy against that.
This was a very big factor in our push for him …
He can learn the system behind Luke for a year and then have a chance to compete for the starting job …

Would like to see Illinois get involved here, even though it's probably going to cost a lot to get him.
let’s hope we only need him on days other than game days - that is , just for practice
