The transfer portal is a reality for everyone, so the negatives and positives have become an occupational hazard. Looking at these Wisconsin transfers

The Bad: Wisconsin had 15 defenders who played ~300 snaps this year. Thompson didn't qualify. Lowery was ranked 14th and Neal ranked 15th by PFF grade. Neal's performance really went downhill at mid-season. Concerning that it's his run defense that fell off a cliff, which will be his priority next year. Lowery's grade fell off in the final three games. Thompson is the best of the bunch and was injured all year.

The Good: Easy justification to say both guys had injuries and played through it for the team. Neal's position seems to be especially beneficial just to have experience. I'd bet high on his performance to be higher next year compared to this year. Based on the variety of quotes, the staff seems certain that Wisconsin's defensive approach (or development) was not putting these guys in a position of success. Let's assume that's true, then it makes sense to take multiple d-line pieces from the same team you like because misuse could be cyclical within the unit.

There've been hints that Scott and potentially Davis will be back. I can't recall seeing anything either way on Jacas.
If he leaves that is very unfortunate - because if you can't retain your best players, continued success isn't all that of a practical hypocritical outcome... and the market will only continue to grow. but its inevitable.

Very much hope Jacas isn't transferring. Even though the result is the same as going to the NFL (tbh, feels like a transfer might be more likely than NFL for him but never know), losing one of your best players to the portal would symbolize much more of a negative sign. You have to keep your best players out of the portal. Should be priority one every year. If you can't... really shows poor status in the $$$ world and a negative sign moving forward. Plagued Purdon't pretty bad.

Let's be honest: We're pretty much never going to be SEC level NIL wise. But losing your best players simply cannot happen. Not a good look for the future and the market will only continue to grow/increase.

Plus, teams that lose their star players never turn out well - look at MINN basketball, look at Seton Hall basketball, look at Purdue football. Not a recipe for success.

What is going on at Wisconsin? Xavier Lucas put them on blast for holding up his transfer. Is Fickell toast or are they just making some big changes resulting in a few awkward scenarios?
