The Illini's win over the low beam beamerites was so satisfying for me as it came when I really needed any sort of pick me up on New Years Eve.........The added drama of BB playing chess with beamer's mind showed how much BB is a thinker to get all angles in favor of the Illini.......the dense coach of our opponent bit on the bait provided by BB in a truly embarrassing way and looked like a crazy man in need of a strait jacket.....all the while BB had a devious smile which told me BB knew he had him hook , line and sinker.......

BB doesn't miss anything evidenced by his using a tackle eligible player and having the ref announce it over and over in games this to point out a game that we lost because the other team didn't do what they were supposed to do.....seems like the game in question was last year but BB doesn't miss a thing and it was hilarious to me to see him do it this year....

we have the best combination of intelligent coaches for WBB , MBB and FB in my lifetime right now.........JMHO..............
100% agree, and welcome back!

i met some great gamecock fans before the game who put the game in perspective and i think if i had seen them afterward would have been calm and congratulatory. a few in the section in front of me might not however! they however were quick to duck out with a few minutes to play.

Best wishes to you

I'll share this , but I dont do it for any other reason than to let you know my deal.

Im 63. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis exactly one year ago. It came on totally out of the blue, just like cancer does. My body is fighting itself

Ive been taking 25 mg of methotrexate (old fashioned chemo) every Friday since. Luckily for me, its not a dosage as high as cancer patients get, but it still ruins my Friday night and Sat morning. I take it Friday so I'm ok for work during the week . I could be on this stuff for quite awhile , as there is no cure for RA. The chemo simply mitigates the inflammation to the point where I can tolerate the discomfort from it. It sucks, but it wont kill me. There are experimental RA drugs, but at 4000 a month, I cant do that . No sure thing either

No one ever told me life would be easy. Ill be okay. Everyone has a cross to bear
Mr. Tibbs: I have always been a fan of your postings on IllinoisLoyalty and am sorry to hear about your current challenge dealing with RA, which is a horrible disease. The good news is that medical research is making progress, albeit slowly, on the care and treatment of patients with RA, which hopefully will inure to your benefit with your treatment.
As ILLINI, we all can do more to support each other in simple ways. Because you had the courage to "share your deal" I am choosing to support you in your battle against RA by making a donation today to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation as my first charitable contribution in 2025. According to Charity Navigator, the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, also known as "Rheumatology Research Foundation," has a 4-star rating for the last 15 years, which puts them in the top 1% of legitimate charities. This is considered the highest possible rating on Charity Navigator. I encourage the men and women of IllinoisLoyalty to reach out to whatever charity that you support and also make your first charitable donation of 2025 today. What we do matters!

Awesome thanks so much!
3:36:00 mark is the "moment."

You might hear me in the background. :)

We totally thought it was the "sub" signal, but Carey Davis was first to catch on that it was the kickoff weak sauce by USC.

Their entire mindset is based on the presumption of SEC football dominance, which is drummed into them constantly by their program, their opponents, and the TV network they watch. Of course, SEC superiority in the CFP era has nothing whatsoever to do with South Carolina. It's always been them boasting about the achievements of the teams that crush them on an annual basis.

They nourished themselves through all those 5-7 seasons on the ESPN-backed assurance that in any other conference, they'd be 8-4 or 9-3, just a rung below the elite programs (in our case, OSU, PSU, Michigan). Finally(!), a year comes where though they're not invited to the party, they're in the conversation. They get put into a bowl, not with a B1G blue-blood like Michigan, but a program for which they have no regard, or even awareness. They never for a moment anticipated that they could lose this game. Opt-outs? Who cares? Throw 11 guys on the field with SEC patches on their jersey and watch a traditional B1G bottom-dweller melt away. This was their (one?) shot to prove that they were always much more than what their records said they were.

When they realized that we were outplaying them, it wasn't a disappointing end to what was a fine season for their program. It was the harsh realization that all those years when they finished ninth in the SEC, the fact that Alabama or Georgia beat the hell out of Ohio State or whoever didn't make them any better than whoever finished ninth in the B1G. That's what was on the faces of their players. That's what brought Beamer to incoherent rage on the sideline. That's why most of their fans online refuse in any way to deal with what actually occurred between the lines but are obsessed with what, at worst, would be a mild tease using an innocuous officiating signal (though I know it wasn't that).

Everyone loses games, but SC lost the narrative they've been clinging to for decades. That's why their brains have short-circuited.

It’s not likely the current rule is going to be changed to prevent “slow” defensive substitutions. The rule is designed to prevent the offense from late substitutions for tactical advantage, exactly what the USC coaching staff was trying to accomplish. They are not going to change a rule that works the way it is supposed to work. Beamer simply did not get the memo they were trying to stop his bending of the rule.

Or he was just being stubborn.

It’s all on the SC OC. Beamer doesn’t call the plays.

Sounds to me that a some of South Carolinas success this year was directly related to how they substituted on offense. Waiting till later in the clock to sub hoping the defense doesn't sub also because of time restraints thus catching them with the wrong personnel on the field every so often. Bret said we ain't having that. We don't care how long you wait to sub we're going to sub too. I bet Beamer and the oc were going crazy all day realizing we were taking away one of their advantages they had been enjoying most of the year.

Almost makes it worse? Like all that huffing and puffing and he could just tell his O to stop doing that...?
But I thought they had a new OC (Shula) for this game since their old one got a HC job somewhere.

So if deliberate, and as they had done previously, then it's on Beamer (as ultimately it should be anyway, heavy hangs the head that wears the crown and all that). If not deliberate, then it was a new OC and players possibly confused while adjusting to each other.

Unless the old OC stayed around for the bowl, if so, never mind.

No Loggains moved on to App State.

They promoted Mike Shula to OC for continuity I'm guessing, so the scheme couldn't have been thst different.

Thanks, knew about Shula but did not realize it was an internal promotion.

Being much closer to the situation than probably everyone else here (but also not a dyed-in-the-wool, born-and-bred Gamecock fan), I am able to confirm/admit that much of this is 100% true. It would absolutely be fair to say that South Carolina has done a lot more riding of the proverbial waves than creating them, and fans are often guilty of puffing their chests a bit too much based on a conference prestige they've had an undersized hand in cultivating.

South Carolina is obviously not among the SEC elite, and hasn't been at all responsible for the SEC winning over half of the national championships this century (as well as over half of those in the CFP era)...but the facts embedded within this statement do help to explain the mindset a bit.

South Carolina has not exactly been a doormat, over that time period. They've finished with at least 8 wins ten times since 2000, including a string of three seasons in row with 11 wins, from 2011-2013. And, yes...over that same time period (prior to Tuesday's game), they were 6-1 against the B1G, with wins over Ohio State (2x), Michigan (2x), Wisconsin, and Nebraska (the only loss coming in a drubbing against...Iowa 🤮).

And there are other factors which help to fuel that "it just means more" attitude (and cockiness). Sellouts at South Carolina are more the norm than a rare exception, and Williams-Brice Stadium is often cited as one of the toughest road environments in the nation. Objectively, I would put the atmosphere of a sold out night game there up against just about any other in all of college football. The fans are passionate and loyal to a fault, and I would argue that they're hardened by a lot of the same kind of seeking for respect that Illini fans know all too well (just on a somewhat different level). Clemson's recent successes have certainly not helped in this regard!

All of this to say: if you put it all into perspective, Illinois didn't exactly present much of a threat or much of a tantalizing opponent, especially with the way the Gamecocks finished out the regular season and all of the talk about the Playoff (right or wrong). The recent history of Illini football is what it is. But, as SuperintendentChalmers aptly pointed out, it made for quite a shock to see the Illini outplaying the Gamecocks, and ultimately winning the game.

It's a necessary (and, in my opinion, very sweet) component of rising from the ashes, as a program. Perceptions will be slow to truly change, nationally, but games like this go a long way. Enjoy the ride! I-L-L!

The rabid SC fans who are posting the most content online seem unhinged. I know they make up an inconsequential fraction of the SC fanbase and alums, but it's a bad look for their brand. I guess it means more down there, or whatever.

I still cannot grasp the histrionics over defensive substitutions, nor any excuse-making here and elsewhere for said histrionics. No, Brett/Aaron were not "pushing it" or "bending the rules" or whatever ridiculous cope the SC fans have used. Beamer's offensive plan ALL SEASON, and for this game, included late offensive substitutions for this exact reason, to catch the defense in a personnel mismatch. It typically worked, and the staff obviously planned for that. The entire point of the substitution rule is to allow the defense to counter-substitute. Ironically, it was Beamer who was manipulating this rule beyond its intent. He was deliberately making late substitutions, and other defenses fell for it. Brett didn't let him get away with it, and Beamer threw a hissy fit.

"But they weren't running off the field fast enough." No, our defense is not required to run max effort wind-sprints when the offense intentionally substitutes with 10 seconds on your game clock. Our players ran on to and off of the field with pace. Manage your own f#$%^ing game clock. Want to run an uptempo offense? Then you don't get to make late substitutions to gain a personnel advantage. JHC, why is this even a debate?

Many SC fans and their defenders have accused Brett of "gamesmanship," whatever that means. Yeah. No sh-it. It's a game. There's usually a great deal of gamesmanship involved, including personnel substitutions. There's usually a lot less whining, though.
A number of their fans clearly take their behavioral marching orders from Beamer. He’s sanctified by that fan base and anyone who dares to criticize him is the enemy.
