Oh come on; you're praising the notion that the team scoring more points will win the game. LOL

Wow. I would love to see that, unlikely as it seems.

Would love to see Tre have a game of his life. You know they are going to cover KJ with a fine tooth comb. This should open up Tre. Kylan will take care of Fears.

I doubt he has the sound up when reviewing film, so that wouldn’t help pronunciation. And likely rarely used his name but rather referred to him by number in team setting. But yeah, always seemed weird. Still, seems like a long way to go or pretty silly to do it intentionally as an insult. As I get older, I can see it as just one of those instances when one repeatedly mispronounces names/words even when you’ve been corrected. A mental block if you will. Cuz I think he did it in multiple postgame pressers.
I agree with this- it didn’t seem intentional, particularly in the clip above which was intended to be a sincere gesture of good wishes

But I can also see the other point of view given Juwan’s constant pronunciation of Kofi as “coffee” even up to his senior year when he was first team AA, had consistently destroyed his team, you know the coach knows his name

I would love to see reporters correct them when they do this and their reaction would certainly tell you if it was intentional

I think we want Kylan on Akins, he’s their scorer, KJ can take Fears
I would think it's going to be Boswell on Fears and KJ on Akins.............Let Boswell slow down Fears with bodying him up and use KJ's 3 inch height advantage on Akins..........also help KJ stay out of foul trouble as Akins is primarily a catch n shoot 3pt threat.....

JMHO...........

Painter fine, Izzy hell no. He’s come off a big crybaby and whiner in recent years.
I'll grant you that Izzo is a malevolent little dwarf who screams, complains, throws tantrums, works the refs, and is obnoxious at times during games. Love him or hate him, the man can coach. To his credit, he has established a long record of excellence, and I often laugh at his antics when the Illini have the upper hand and are working him like a job during games. He has also frequently been complimentary of the Illini, and has spoken of his respect for Underwood several times. I see your point, but I look at the exaggerated in-game behavior as somewhat of an act.

It's always been kind of amusing to me that we hold this over Izzo's head (there's a short joke in there somewhere). BU mispronounces his own players' names sometimes and it's never struck me as intentional, disrespectful, or bush league.
Underwood is the only one to pronounce Ben’s name as “Hume-rick-house” instead of Hum. At least that’s the pronunciation I recall from him, multiple times.

I haven’t watched much Sparty, but I like how we match up overall.

Fears looks like he’s developed into a really good PG but still can’t shoot. Kylan is the same size, likely stronger, and has shut off the water of better guards all year.

Aikens and Holliman are good players but don’t scare me.

I don’t that any of their starters can check KJ or Tre with their positional size. Carr maybe?

And it looks like a classic MSU team with a staple of big brawny white dudes in the front court but none of them look particularly quick footed and I think will struggle to guard Tomi and Ben in space.

They are a good rebounding team but we are statistically better.

They are deep but we’ve been pretty consistently playing about an 8.5 man rotation (Dre, Morez mainstays at 20 ish minutes each. Will and Jake splitting 25ish minutes between them) so I don’t know if that’s a huge advantage.

To me this game really comes down to 3 things: 1. Effort - we have to play as hard as they do or close to it. 2. Limit their transition opportunities - with their bad 3 pt shooting not sure they can score enough in the half court. 3. Avoid foul trouble - Izzo was on the refs from the opening whistle last year and I expect the same as, like last year, we are just more talented top to bottom.

If we play hard and get back on D I think we are too talented. I will say 77-71, Illini.

The little whiny imp should of kept his pie hole shut when the Illini were letting Bubbles go from our HC position.......I'm still pizzed about that after all the years passed.........I don't ever recall an Illini HC butting into another B$G's programs decision to fire their HC...........That , and all the other shady s**t thats happened at msu over the years regarding sexual misconduct with players on his squad.......I seem to remember he even got to the point of questioning a victim's account of what happened regarding said assault....
And that doesn't even take into account what he knew about the long time trainers misconduct...........

I don't trust him and I don't think his sideline conduct is an act...... I think after 30 years there he believes he is entitled to do whatever he wants to do.........The bringing up of Ayo's broken face by an earlier poster has me wanting to embarrass him and his program more than ever............it really really does.............

stat of the game will be rebounds.
That always is a huge stat but if we shoot our normal high volume of threes at a high clip like the mid 50%s like at Oregon even that won't matter. If we are even just over 40% I think we win.
We are solid on the boards and consistent in that area. I expect that to be close. The 3 is up and down but if it's falling we got this. If not it may be tight til the end.

I'm not so sure - I agree with you it's usually better to have Kylan shut down the other teams PG to get their offense out of rhythm, but Akins takes 11.5 shots per game by far the team leader and only 5 of those are 3 pointers. If we want to shut off someone's water in this game, its Akins

Also - Carr is a terrible matchup for Ben - on the glass and in transition - this might be a Morez game, we'll need him on the boards and someone that can match the physicality of Carr. On the flip side, I think Tomi can have big game against whatever Center MSU has in the game.

I was not particularly impressed with that Spartan team after last night. They're very run of the mill as far as Izzo teams go. The major thing I think is that they have active hands and are good at creating - and capitalizing on - turnovers. That's been a bit of a weakness of ours.

MSU tallies 114 pts for every 100 shots from 2 (57.1%,) 86 for every 100 from 3 (28.7%.) It looks like the D plan should be to run them, at least selectively, to the 3 point line, instead of off it. Or, maybe BU just thinks we will hit enough 3s to outscore their higher % from 2s?

I’m sure we will let them shoot 3s but we still want to get them into contested 2s. Still the lowest % shot in the game

agree. I found the video in question and while he certainly grossly mispronounces Ayo's name, it's not obviously intentional. Other than his comments defending his guy (and we all know Izzo's wrong, but we also all know he's got to do that as the HC of MSU), what he said is what you would expect an opposing coach to say. I dislike Izzo as much as the next fan, but his mispronounciation of Ayo's name doesn't even make the top 100 list of reasons why.

LOL ayo had been giving MSU (and really the rest of the BIG) the business for 3 years at this point. He knew his name. They had played like 4 times so off the announcers alone he's heard the real name a bunch of times.

Longer than recent years! For me it started when Weber was fired and his comments.
I actually don’t mind his working the refs, and I don’t know enough about his alleged scandals … but this right here is what annoyed me. Effectively said we were delusional to expect any better than the late Weber years even though our previous three coaches did so much better than that, and now Underwood after him is, too. 🤣
