UConn coach Dan Hurley owned up to berating an official during Tuesday's win after he was caught on camera telling them "don't turn your back on me, I'm the best coach in the f---ing sport."

As an official in a different sport (soccer), I'll first say that head coaches do have a right to engage in discussion and communication with officials and to advocate and support their teams. There should never be a draconian "coaches cannot talk to officials". Good communication between coaches and officials is extremely healthy for the game.

That being said, officials have to start being stronger with coaches at all levels. Personal attacks cannot be allowed. Walking onto the court cannot be allowed. Profanity cannot be allowed. The rules are there. It takes assignors being firm with coaches and ADs that they will back their officials properly dealing with inappropriate behavior, and then the officials actually following through on properly dealing with bad behavior. Again, this IS NOT about slapping Lon Kruger with a technical when he would tell a referee, "Call it" if he felt his player was fouled and the referee is running up the sideline. This is about behavior like we see with Dan Hurley and Tom Izzo. Behavior that is public, personal, provocative, and persistent (the "four Ps" I use when I teach new soccer referees in their introductory class) needs to be dealt with and sanctioned.

In the mind of the NCAA the only problems are ones that affect the bottom line and the ease and luxury of their bureaucracy. So not saying you're wrong, but if your argument is based on equity it's irrelevant.

The issue with the NCAA is that Dan Hurley's behavior drives ratings, articles, clicks, and other engagement. That's really the bottom line for the NCAA, so they will continue to condone and tolerate it.

Imagine Boswell fastbreaking down the middle of the floor full speed for an easy layup. Then, seeing an enraged Hurley standing on the court, Kylan changes his mission. He veers away from his open path to the basket and heads toward the sideline where he flattens Hurley in a decidedly one sided collision. After Kylan makes his layup, Hurley stands up with his glasses broken and crooked on his face, mouth agape, a sneaker print on his buttoned shirt. And just when he regains his bearings, he looks over to see the refs T'ing him up.

That would make a great pre-game clip for the scoreboard before every MSU visit. Insert Heathcote slamming the ball into his face. We would be on our way to a real montage to entertain and fire up the crowd.:)

Followed the next day by this, no thanks. You want to take out Hurley, that's what walk-ons are for.

Having never been a ref, but having been a coach, there is a problem with ambiguous statements like "Profanity cannot be allowed." Profane to whom?

Unpopular here but I like Hunter Dickinson. He cracks me up. Wouldn’t let go of a tie up after the whistle and gets a T. lol

Florida-South Carolina game is a nail biter. Last three scoring by both teams have been beyond the arc. South Carolina leads by two with a minute left.
