We miss a lot of threes because we aren't getting quality looks. Mostly because we don't run any semblance of an offense to produce those. If you need proof, look at how many threes we shoot off the bounce vs. off the catch. It's staggering. There is a clear reason we shoot sub 20% from three many nights. Coach needs to look in the mirror on that one.

I'm no PJ Carlesimo, but I think I understand basketball. Can someone explain to me what our offense is. We score a lot of points, but all I see is 4 guys standing around the 3 pt line and 1 guy inside. The guy will the ball dribbles around a bit while the other 3 on the perimeter stand perfectly still. I think the defense can't see them if they don't move. Then we either take a contested 3 or swing it around the perimeter until someone decides to shoot a 3. Maybe every once in a while someone will drive to the hoop.

Underwood seems to be convinced, just take a lot of 3s, it doesn't matter if you don't make them. If you get enough shots up, you'll score. Well for decades there was another way. You ran an offense. Players were constantly moving, they were setting screens the were working to get open looks from all 3 levels. Remember how many open shots from 6 ft in James Augustine used to get from actually running an offense? That was great.
We have no real inside game without Ivisic. Rez is still raw, need another capable big.

Wondering if anyone else noticed this. I'm a fan of KJ so I'm not trying to place blame on him but I didn't understand why he didn't make an attempt to come and get the ball on the last inbounds play of regulation. I believe he came to get the ball each time before that. Was that by plan that he not have the ball in his hands for the last shot?
KJ is not ready for the NBA. He needs another year of college to work on his ball security and strength.

He’s a lottery pick, so he’s gone. But he’ll struggle against quicker and stronger guards in the NBA.

Lost 4 out of 6. The ball handling and passing on this team is atrocious. KJ cannot handle the ball -[6 to] Will Riley is weak with the ball and gets pushed around. He is absolutely brain dead on defense getting beat time after time. Nebby got 44 points in the paint while the Illini were chucking up 44 rocks from 3 and hitting 10. This team has no inside game at all with or without Tomi. Brad still insists on playing Ben who continues to miss the broadside of the barn! The 2 hottest players in the 2nd half were Will and Dra, yet Dra didn't start the OT. The Huskers outrebounded us in the OT and just dominated those 5 minutes. I knew coming in that the Illini would be flat just like they have been the last 6 games. I don't know what they are doing in practice or what the game plan is [ if they even have one] other than shooting 3's from the parking lot. This team is nowhere near a tournament team. All we heard from Brad is how this team could shoot 3's [ I guess he was right] he never said they could make them.
I notice that during the timeouts Brad isn't in the huddle it is generally Tyler. Maybe Brad needs to fire his son!
They have put themselves in a do or die situation that every game from here out is a MUST WIN!
Compared to some wildly entertaining games earlier in the season I don't even recognize this team.

Kylan has picked up bad habits from Caleb Love. When he’s on, one of the most sensational and pure shooting strokes out there. Looks like he can hit anything. But when he’s off, it looks forced and mechanical.
On and off, I've gotten the impression that he sometimes gets an "I can do that too!" mentality. Somebody else makes a flashy pass, he tries one. Or we need a superman to step up and hit a big shot, he launches a quick 3 from five feet beyond the arc.
Maybe it's just my imagination.

It’s rare I turn a game off. Like very rare. But after coach took out DGL on that final possession and we botched said final possession like usual I decided I wasn’t watching over time.
You lasted a lot longer than I did. I turned it off after the second Nebraska dunk at the end of the first half. Between the noon ball offense and two straight dunk instances of “ole” defense, I decided it was easier to not keep watching.

Not even close to the same level as Dalton Knecht.

For the last possession in regular time with z5 seconds left, I would’ve gotten the ball to DGL for a speedy drive to the rim and a chance to close it out. That approach seemed better than Will be stuck. With a corner 3 chuck.

Instead, I see DGL shocked by the substitution because it was so obviously dumb. Feels like the days of Gentry were an eternity ago.

The answer is that you can't have unrestricted free agency year to year. No sport other than college football or basketball has that. Yes, pay the players, but not where anyone can leave at any time. It artificially inflates player value and creates inconstancy and turmoil. It also is terrible for player development.

After we called that timeout at the end of regulation watch how long it took the coaching staff to begin drawing up a play. They talked/argued among themselves about what to do and walked around. Finally, at the end, they were frantically scribbling it out on the whiteboard as the timeout was ending.

This is just basic level stuff. You know this is coming. You should have a dozen or a half dozen plays in your pocket you can go to here.

There was a possession coming out of a timeout with the clock under 3 minutes and for some reason KJ was not on the floor....wtf?

Agree. We didn’t force the issue at all. Needed a drive to the basket and at worst, get a chance at free throws to win the game.

Nebraska was probably shocked they escaped that to get to overtime. 25 sec left, tied, without the ball. We only got a last second heave from the corner 3.

Hoiberg completely owned Brad on that. Embarrassing.

I watched the presser and watched Brad tell Piper he was “a crappy player.”

Didn’t come across as a joke and if it was a joke right after your team looks like garbage is probably not the right time to go after a reporter. Especially considering the beat reporters at Illinois are almost always fair to Brad.

Pretty petty all things considered.

The funny thing is Brad said in the presser Riley had a good look at the end of regulation. Some of his comments are just bizarre

Like everyone on here, I went to bed; we'll say I was not happy last night trying to wrap my head around some things.

When I woke this morning, the game was done and over with, but I still jaw dropped about reading the intel on the site about NIL and BH. So he gets paid a considerable sum AND was guaranteed to start. We all know this has been happening for years, but THIS GUY!!

Go stand in a corner and think about what you've done to whoever made the final approval stamp.

I'm about done with sports in general. You can't go to JH/HS without parents screaming non-stop at officials and coaches, NFL is rigged, MLB take forever, NBA bores me to death, NCAA NIL is out of control.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. Bring Lon Kruger in this off season for some consulting work related to in game coaching and situational work. He’s the best Illinois has ever had in these areas. He’d add a lot of knowledge for the staff in this regard.

100%. I think the staff has really under developed Will Riley in this offense because all of his shots are 1 on 1 isos, and usually tough shots. And he can make tough shots, but it’s hard to get on a consistent heater when all the shots you take are really difficult.

Given how his year has gone, I’d be surprised if he’s back next year. He can be better utilized and put up better numbers in a different offense.

I wasn’t that upset with WR’s shot. It actually almost went in. I was upset at the fact that we wasted seconds off the clock on the inbounds plays and just let them foul us. It’s like we were playing for overtime and that’s it.
