From the you-gotta-start-somehwere file. Watching Martin Sheen n "Live Bait" episode of "Mission Impossible". Enough said. Glad he moved on and up. He did a lousy eastern bloc generic accent. Boris Badenov should have been his dialect coach.

Now "Highway Patrol" with Broderick Crawford.

Did you know Mr. Crawford was accepted to Harvard College? They say.

10-4.

I just got out of "A Complete Unkown" and I must say it was very good. I don't have a strong opinion of Dylan either way, but I was all in from stary to finish. It was great to Edward Norton, I'm sure he is doing stuff on services I don't have, but he definitely one of my favorites.

I just got back from "Becoming Led Zeppelin" and as much as I love that band, you forget the absolute powerhouse they were and still are.

Today is the day every year where some of us wait for Oscar predictions from @IanKEvans2

I don't recall IanKEvans2 posting in some time. Judging by the lack of interest here I think most have fallen into the same doldrums that I find myself in when it comes to recent releases. I'm not overly excited about much of anything. I dislike many of the awards hosts the past few years and cant' say as I've even watched one live since well before the Smith/Rock episode. As a moviegoer who attends probably 30+ releases in the theater, and probably another 30 or so streaming shorty after the theatrical release, I feel the quality of the offerings are just subpar. I guess we are still in the Covid delay/reshoot/rewrite phase and it's lingering effects?!?!?!?

In fact my favorite movie in the last several years has actually been the 70mm re-release of Interstellar. It was without a doubt my best movie-going experience, EVER! And I caught it 3 times in the short time it was out. It was only supposed to be a 1 week thing but was expanded to 3 maybe even 4 weeks, not sure. But it was EPIC.

Today was a travel day for a conference at Michigan State of all places, but this year was mixed on my feelings for cinema. That said, pretty happy with the results overall at quick glance, especially with the Anora wins. Sean Baker is an incredible storyteller ("Tangerine" and "The Florida Project" are so wildly original).

I'll add some commentary later this week!

I've been trying to get to see Anora in the theater since it opened, but I've had to go on several trips, and other newer releases resulted in my not seeing it yet. Tangerine is saved in one of my streaming ques but I've not gotten to it either. I saw Florida Project when it was released and absolutely loved it. The cool thing about that movie is that I talked my sister into watching it with me, and she's NOT a theater goer at all, and she loved it! I'll have to do better on making the time to see Anora/Tangerine in the very near future.

That movie has one of my favorite Willem Dafoe scenes of his film career. It's the one where he confronts the guy (you know which one i'm talking about) and kicks him out of the hotel.

I caught Sinners last night and cannot recommend it enough. Entirely original story with no "based on a true story" or intellectual property being utilized, with a cast showcasing their unique talents unapologetically. The screenplay was surgical, with every plot point and detail playing out like a musical number. I won't spoil the film, but there is one scene which felt like an instant classic. Ryan Coogler is top notch.

Oh, and if you're able, see it in the theaters. One of the best times I've had at the movies in years.

Went to see Thunderbolts* yesterday. Best Marvel movie in years, which granted isn't saying much, but I think a lot of our expectations have been lowered based on recent MCU stuff that has been released. Some other thoughts:

Enjoyed a couple of the lines Red Guardian had. My favorite was probably when him and Bucky were discussing which super soldier serum they got and he says he got the Soviet version that wasn't quite as effective.

The design of the Void character in this film, once it was finally revealed, was really effectively done. And the discussion of mental health and trauma, not just for Bob but for all the characters, was really good too.

The mid-credits scene was great and the end credits scene, I mean, I just loved Red Guardian wearing the new Avengerz gear with all the sponsorship logos on it (including a Wheaties one I noticed).

Only thing that didn't make sense to me is why they even had Taskmaster in this film. She's only really in the scene in the vault and they kill her off in that scene. If you're going to have the film centered around Yelena, Ghost, and John Walker anyway, you can still do it without having Taskmaster involved.

I will get to Thunderbolts and hopefully Surfer this week. Been on a movie binge the past couple weeks. Seen Black Box, The Amateur, Accountant 2, Working Man, Mickey 17, Sinners, & Warfare. Warfare was really REALLY intense, very unsettling, this movie shook me. Sinners in IMAX was fantastic! Accountant 2 was not as engaging as the 1st, but still good. Black Box/Amateur/Working Man and Mickey 17 are in order of 1st/least liked, but all were good watches.

I saw Fight or Flight. Basically an airborne version of Bullet Train with Pitt/others. If you liked Bullet Train, you'll like Fight/Flight.

Last night I also binge-watched the most recent season of Daredevil: Born Again, it was fantastic!
