Was at the game also. Saw quite a few positives. KJ is back minus the turnovers. We actually shot close to 40% on 3’s. I thought Kylan had a good game except for a late 3. Rebounding was the difference. Tomi was slow on D the second half. Could have been still hurting or gassed. Morez should taken some of those minutes. I like many others don’t Understand 35 min for Ben. On to MSU. We owe them big time.

We’re now 16-1 when scoring at least 80 points, with the only loss being to current #2 Alabama in Birmingham back in November. If this team is scoring points, it likely means our effort/energy/focus is also on point, and we are simply very difficult to beat.

We beat a very good and RED hot UCLA team tonight, and we were in control for the vast majority of the game. Let’s win Saturday and start an actual winning streak, boys!!

It's "amazing" how effort, energy, defense and rebounding magically translate into 80+ points.

I am happy we won, of course. But...
When the game started, we went inside. That's what we needed.
But in a couple minutes, we were back to shooting 3's, and not always open/squared up/feet set good looks. Why?
Still went inside once in a while, but going inside is what works for these guys. Why stray?
Also, this AntWright guy had a couple video analyses recently where we ran some pretty unstoppable set plays.
So I started looking for us running those plays. Haven't really seen them. Did we forget how to run them?
Lastly, what's with our need to drive into traffic? KJ into the lane, and especially Bam into the corners.
Our team is so very good otherwise.

Why? The UCLA defense is set up to stop drives to the basket with aggressive double and triple teams and slapping and jabbing and grabbing the basketball out of the opponent's control. They are very good at this. It helped them win seven games in a row. If you rewatch the game, you will see that Illinois players tried again and again to drive towards the basket and were stopped by UCLA's aggressive defenders. Many desperations passes and shot attempts were the result. Illinois could drive to the basket more successfully in the easy win against Minnesota because their defense is poor. UCLA's defense is very tough and can dictate what their opponent can accomplish.

1)UCLA had bigs that could stretch the floor and hit the three. Morez is not quick enough to get there and drop back. Late in the game, he's a liability because he's going to be a foul target.

2)Ben is quick enough to get out to shooters and while I know the last one rimmed out, you can trust that he'll go to the line and make the foul shots. He was 3 of 4.
Ben is a 63% FT shooter Morez is a 61% FT. That’s a wash.
Are you so sure that Ben is quicker than Morez?

Get a nice lead, relax on offense and relax on defense. At least be consistent on defense. Fight the whole game on defense. DGL said something to the effect of everyone playing pissed off. Those complaining about the Orange Crush….the players told Brad that they couldn’t hear to communicate on defense and they were missing coverage. Brad said they practice with no noise. Guess they need to use noise in practice to figure it out.

Hamer's gameplan of playing drop coverage against a 40% three point shooter and then making ZERO adjustments as he made 7 of them was insanity.

Hey we won. Looking at remaining schedule I have 17-14 or 18-13, for season. We have Duke at MSG. I pray I'm wrong, Kj's quad or knee looked miserable once he tweaked it.

what did tre do for the doghouse, hes struggled recently but his peak (first 1-2 months of the season) was much better then ben. Tre is a better rebounder and defender.

Obviously this isn't the main takeaway from the game, but I realized that we finished the year 4-0 when our games were on Peacock.

vs. SIUE-W
vs. Wisconsin-W
at Indiana-W
vs. UCLA-W

We're actually now 6-1 all time on Peacock in basketball after going 2-1 last year. The only loss was the home finale against Purdue last March. We had blowout wins at Ohio State and Michigan.

Wow, look at this - it is after midnight and a new day - Wednesday, and no Ben comments yet.

We're not the only team to faulter a bit down the stretch... scUM led Purdue by 6 with 40 sec. and Purdue had a three to win it at the end.

It's all about focus in those situations. While it is concerning, you still won. Most notably, inbounding the ball was much less of an issue.

Watch the last minute of the game. 76-73. Out of a timeout, I can see Underwood Jr in his papa’s ear. Too much. He aint smart. Why?
JK put up an off balanced shot for 3. Did he really plan that? I hope not. JK saved his !!!.

ucla was one of the hottest teams in the conference, and it showed. We played really good to snap their 7 game win streak.

Will Riley is looking more comfortable every game. And I really believe the best of him and Morez is yet to come.

And giving credit where it's due, BH made some plays down the stretch. He was a factor in this one.

BAM just tough as nails in this one too.

Tomi and KJ huge.

We may not be all the way there, but our elevator is going up.
Well said Foby.
I've been waiting for Will to become Will. Looks like he's turning the corner.
If Morez stays, he will become one of my all-time favorites. He's already well on his way.

Makes sense. Tre looked happy - not Ty happy mind you - but happy.
Looking forward to having him back.

... Have always thought Tre could be what Randle should've been for the 2004-2005 team had he not hurt his hand (fist).

Sometimes I think we don't give Boswell enough love. Sure, he's not perfect, but he's strong, both mentally and physically, tough as nails and in your shirt defensively. After last night, give me Kylan over Clark any time. 8 for 8 at the free throw line. The whole game we were super at the line (90%) and that's crucial for any team down the stretch in close games.
