This is all on BU. Ben is not a bad player at all. Think what we would be thinking of him if he was what he should be 15-20 minutes a game as a decent defender (has size) and a potential offensive punch with his 3’s. He simply is not a 35 minute guy at this level? BU is nothing if not stubborn?

Yes, Johnson guards the perimeter like garbage, sonit was just a terrible matchup for him. Secondly, he's a bad foul shooter.

DGL looked tired on both ends. When he missed the wide open put back, followed by getting bullied in the lane at the end of the first half......he didn't look right. No energy and if he doesn't bring that, he shouldn't be out there. That's his #1 asset.
If DGL and Tre are dealing with the same thing I've been dealing with for the last 7 or 8 days, I can understand why they aren't playing. Definitely have no energy. Some nasty stuff floating around out there.

I was at the game and here's a few observations I made:

-Much better overall flow to our offense now that we have enough wrinkles (not just KJ getting picks)
-Our defense in the first half was stellar, our defense in the 2nd half, especially late was atrocious (another 53 point half).
-This team still lacks a killer instinct and we struggle mightily in closing minutes of games. The end of that game will surely give all of us grey hairs.
-Why on earth Brad is still playing Ben meaningful minutes (35) is beyond me. I couldn't believe that Morez essentially sat the bench the entire 2nd half.
-Our obvious best lineup was Tomi, Morez, Will, Kyland, KJ-But hey, Brad gets paid the big bucks to disagree with me.

BIGGEST TAKEAWAY:
After 34 hit his 5th or 6th 3, Underwood called a timeout and Hamer (I'm pretty confident) went to say something to Brad and his immediately stopped him and looked like he was ready to steal his soul. Hamer sat down and looked like his puppy got hit by a car. I'm pretty certain Brad was enraged by the gameplan and issues we were having with 34.

Maybe it's just me, but I actually thought the crowd was terrible tonight. There were times when we increased the lead past 10 and the place should've been ROCKING and impossible to hear and it was nearly silent. Maybe I'm just getting older but it just doesn't feel like the crowd has a killer instinct either.
Agree about the crowd, Krush and the crowd in general seemed much more interested in booing Skyy than cheering on the team. Volume was ok, but not much standing and cheering - we should have been standing for the last 5 minutes and it was more like the last 30 seconds.

big win, another win Saturday and I’m guessing we jump a whole seed line.

KJ is always going to have a few wild turnovers, it’s just how he plays. What he can do outweighs a few turnovers a game as maddening as it is.

Impressive to pull out a win against an impressive defensive team in UCLA…especially when they shoot 50%+ from 3.

It's "amazing" how effort, energy, defense and rebounding magically translate into 80+ points.
And how scoring 80+ points magically causes effort, energy, rebounding. 🙂

Yep... And If Dre & Tre are healthy this is a different game

The ill-fitting suit makes him look a lot like an Oompa Loompa. I texted my brothers for an informal poll to see whether Cronin or Izzo looks more like an Oompa Loompa. They said Izzo because he's rounder. I said Cronin because his face is redder more consistently.

Obviously this isn't the main takeaway from the game, but I realized that we finished the year 4-0 when our games were on Peacock.

vs. SIUE-W
vs. Wisconsin-W
at Indiana-W
vs. UCLA-W

We're actually now 6-1 all time on Peacock in basketball after going 2-1 last year. The only loss was the home finale against Purdue last March. We had blowout wins at Ohio State and Michigan.
No, I think the common factor is that I didn't watch any of the Peacock games, and my viewership apparently jinxes things :ROFLMAO:

Man, I'm a fan of Coach Underwood and all, but couldn't the Twitters come up with a better thumbnail of that video? I really didn't need to start my morning scrolling through the thread and being able to see exactly what type of pants Brad was wearing. :)

Ben is a 63% FT shooter Morez is a 61% FT. That’s a wash.
Are you so sure that Ben is quicker than Morez?
Ben did play 35 minutes and didn't make a single turnover, a couple assists, 40% from 3, played physical and last night was 75% from the line. Also, historically Ben is a 73% FT shooter and is obviously prefered to Morez at the line. If BU thought Morez could shoot as well as Ben in any area he would likely have played instead of Ben. I know I wanted Kylan at the line but I didn't want Morez on the floor if UCLA is clearly fouling. Clearly BU didn't either nor should he.

If I'm reading tea leaves accurately, Tre isn't playing because he is disgruntled with his role. Has NIL brought us to a place currently where players can just 'quit' midseason (they still get paid, from what I understand)? A healthy, motivated Tre White can really help this team. I also am worried a bit about DGL as he was visibly unhappy on the bench last night.

you are in fact reading the tea leaves incorrectly. The doghouse still exists in the NIL world. I'd imagine Tre will play Saturday as we will need some minutes from him imo.

I think the assumption made to allow a poorly shooting 3 point player to be left unguarded. Most likely a low percentage when guarded, likely why these type of players are having good games against Illini.
While I think this is true in many cases where an opposing player has gone off against us, I can all but guarantee that could not possibly have been the plan with Bilodeau. Coming into the game, Bilodeau was UCLA's best 3pt shooter (over 40%) on moderate volume and he's now Top 100 in the nation in 3pt shooting percentage. Opting to give him open threes would be a terrible nonsensical pregame scout. As in so bad, even if this was cooked up by one of the assistant coaches, it would have been easily shut down by Brad

I think the better explanation is that we simply didn't have a defensive gameplan that was either good enough or implementable enough by our players to sufficiently guard him behind the arc. He should not have been getting open looks. The fact that he was tells us that the gameplan was borked or players completely ignored the scout and coaches. I'm opting for poor gameplan.

Just listen to the post game presser. Communication breakdowns
