We had more points than the other team at the end of regulation, but we had fewer points than them the last 6 minutes, which is known to negate the former accomplishment.
I get your joke so haha and all that but we have had games where we outscored the other team for 39 minutes and then they outscored us in the last 1 minute and we lost so it is a valid concern

Next time just don't let them outscore us for the last 6 minutes, please and thank you

Illinois is one of the worst teams in college basketball to defend the pick and roll. This has been a problem, especially against Purdue, through out the Underwood era.

That's no joke. The bug I had pretty much knocked me cold from mid-day Friday until yesterday morning. I was doing little more than laying on the couch watching reruns and college basketball games. The idea of still trying to prepare to play D1 college basketball games through something like this is not a fun idea to consider.

If these guys can just get back to 100% health on both the injury and illness fronts, it could be a pretty marked turnaround. I haven't watched the game yet (I'm going to keep honoring not engaging with games live since they seem to play better when I'm not watching), but seeing five guys with 29+ minutes and six with 20+ minutes probably isn't an ideal rotation for what Brad wants to do.

Why? The UCLA defense is set up to stop drives to the basket with aggressive double and triple teams and slapping and jabbing and grabbing the basketball out of the opponent's control. They are very good at this. It helped them win seven games in a row. If you rewatch the game, you will see that Illinois players tried again and again to drive towards the basket and were stopped by UCLA's aggressive defenders. Many desperations passes and shot attempts were the result. Illinois could drive to the basket more successfully in the easy win against Minnesota because their defense is poor. UCLA's defense is very tough and can dictate what their opponent can accomplish.
In several cases, I agree - the lane looked open, KJ drove and UCLA collapsed well in response, and usually stripped the ball away. Very good D indeed.

In some other cases, it seemed a bit like the old Frogger video game - just mho, and I am just a fan, not a player or coach with any real experience.

Is it a doghouse situation?
Is it a breaking team rules situation?
Is it Tre is disgruntled?

I keep asking about Tre because I think we truly need him to make a run.
6'7 athletic guy who can guard multiple positions and also cut and slash to basket on offensive end.

Okay, you have to admit ... I'm happy as hell with the win and 99% of how we played, but I can't imagine Brad was a happy camper about nearly giving up a 16-point lead when it looked like the game was in the bag! :ROFLMAO:
I didn't say he was. I just thought that post was funny and spot on for the board.

But WHY is he in the dog house? Is he outwardly complaining about his current role? Is he not giving good effort in practice? I mean, before his recent slump, he was probably one of Illinois' three best players, and it would be nice to get something similar back into our rotation (even with Riley stepping up his game). Also, what's up with DGL? Is he not healthy yet?

Am I the only one that saw Underwood eviscerate Hamer? Maybe it's possible I didn't see it clearly, but it sure looked like he was raging at him.

On Bilodeau, I know Brad said there were communication breakdowns but from what I could see Tomi was stuck in drop coverage on an awful lot of those wide open 3’s.

Whether it was the coverage or execution/communication, really frustrating we didn’t prepare for that better. It was a pretty simple action they were running. Hopefully they fix it soon because Wisconsin in general and Crowl in particular are due to hit a bunch of 3’s against us.

They were supposed to tilt the flat ball screen with him which means they ice it and force him to non dominant hand but they couldn't here the tilt call which Brad said they just gotta be instinctive in those instances.

It is beyond me that you apparently have a head coach at the University of Illinois, who does not have an innate sense when and when not to call a timeout. Is there not an assistant, who can help him out?

That is a great point. But with the landscape of college basketball today, there is no guarantee that any of them will be back.

It's not just that. Brad said Tomi hasn't practiced. They're trying to preserve his health somewhat between games.

So yeah, it's not like they didn't prepare for it, but as big as the gap is between practice and games, imagine not practicing it at all.

I still say its wild that they kept hitting them. Wide-open threes happen, but that doesn't mean you're going to make 55% of them or whatever it was. They're not particularly great at shooting the three either.

ucla was one of the hottest teams in the conference, and it showed. We played really good to snap their 7 game win streak.

Will Riley is looking more comfortable every game. And I really believe the best of him and Morez is yet to come.

And giving credit where it's due, BH made some plays down the stretch. He was a factor in this one.

BAM just tough as nails in this one too.

Tomi and KJ huge.

We may not be all the way there, but our elevator is going up.
Agree. I was so impressed with how we matched their offense. I did not feel we gave up easy buckets as much as I think they are really that good. Key was we kept up with them offensively.
Very impressive job by underwood and the team. Go Illini!
