Just realized I had been conflating Drew Thelwell and Jordan Lathon in my brain. I am very relieved that they are different dudes and the one who did not torch us plays for Iowa.

Tonight will show what kind of mental state the Illini are in. An ugly loss and players have quit. A solid win and maybe health (physical and mental) is on the mend. A nail biter? Who knows.
This is my takeaway. If they lose this game, these players have quit or their confidence is broken beyond repair. I hope that's not the discussion after because that's as much on the players as the coach. Everyone involved has to have heart.

I’m feeling iowa 88, illinois 82. Hope to be wrong.

Staying away from the game thread can be a big help. But if we lose, the postgame thread will be pretty grim...
My head knows this but my heart ultimately wins out. I don't have anyone here ( in KY) to watch with. It's nice to "watch" with everyone on Loyalty. (When we're playing well anyway)

Seeing a lot of sentiment that we "will finally find out about this team tonight." I would say the last two and one half games were a pretty crystal clear message to me; in addition to USC, Rutgers, and Nebraska. Happy to be wrong, but not really expecting to be unfortunately.

Don't know which Illini team shows up tonight. Really..... wouldn't be surprised of a blowout for either side.
Seldom does this happen, but I actually woke up this morning after dreaming about this game. It was a back/forth high-scoring affair, and Iowa pulled away in the last 5 minutes. That final score was:

Iowa 96
Illini 85

Now conscious and back to my REALIST self, I don't think it will actually be that close. We're in a really, really bad funk. Iowa shoots 55% from the floor:

Iowa 102
Illini 74

You can't be serious with the second score prediction. If that happened, every player should lose their scholarship, every coach should be fired immediately and all of the fans should have their money refunded.

If Iowa gets hot, it could be uncomfortable, but we should still win.

DAMN THE TORPEDO'S , FULL STEAM AHEAD !!!!!!!!!!

ILLINI 85
squawks 77

Play like it's a play-in game with all the heart and effort we can muster to right this ship before we sink.......

Don't let these idiots get any opening's beyond the arc........WE CAN DO THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We really really really can...........................

Iowa this season:
338th in opposing FG%
341st in opposing 2pt FG%
245th in opposing 3pt FG%
302nd in opposing offensive rebound %
315th in offensive rebounding %

This Iowa team does not defend and does not rebound. This is basically playing a Quad 4 defense and rebounding team. There is absolutely no excuse for not absolutely obliterating them on the boards and dicing them up on offense. None.

We may very well give up a lot of points tonight- Iowa is a great offensive team, but if we aren't rebounding or getting good offensive looks, that's the sign that our team has packed it in for the season, because anything less than domination there means we'd have trouble beating anyone at this point.
