McDermott doesn't strike me as someone who'd live an overly lavish lifestyle (grew up on a farm in Northeast Iowa), and I would imagine you can live in Omaha on 3M a year VERY comfortably, so I'm guessing it would probably take a substantial raise to convince McDermott to jump from Creighton. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'd probably be asking for $5M to compensate for leaving a good and comfortable situation at Creighton for Indiana.

Looks like Minnesota outspent Illinois (although, for all intents and purposes, it was equal), and both schools appear to be ~top 25-30 spenders in all of NCAA.
That's definitionally not going to include NIL though, which until next season does not come directly from the schools, and is the real currency right now. The House settlement money will obviously change the calculus a little, but given the hard cap on the revenue sharing Minnesota at best will be in about the same boat as every other Big Ten school on that front (the revenue sharing is optional, so Minnesota may choose not to do it or to share under the cap. If Minnesota goes with yet another "young coach from a mid-major", it's the clinical definition of insanity unless they want to open up the NIL checkbook. I see Iowa and Minnesota as really similar programs at the present time. Apathetic fan interest, facilities are not great by any stretch, not a significant amount of financial investment on the NIL side of things. They seem to be facing something of an identity crisis right now. What type of program do they really want to be? I don't think even Mark Coyle knows that answer at the present time, and he needs to figure it out and fast.

I moved to Minneapolis from the Chicago area (north suburbs) back in the 80s and lived there for about 10 years, and it really wasn't that bad, or rather not that worse than Chicago, at least while I was there. More snow and colder, yes, but not dramatically worse (unless you go farther north, then it can get really bad). The worst part is that winter lasts longer. I would say, generally speaking, add 2 weeks on each end of the winter season compared to Chicago, which can be depressing. But the thing is, they know what to do with the cold and snow. There are many more activities one can do that you can’t do around Chicago because there usually isn’t enough snow and it doesn’t last as long in the Chicago area as it does in the Twin Cities. And the ponds, lakes, and skating rinks don’t freeze over in the Chicago area. One can go cross country skiing, skating, and play hockey, and I am sure there are other winter activities, too. And they really know how to remove that snow from the streets and sidewalks. The snow removal system is pretty amazing. And they have skyways linking buildings, etc. I was born there (Alexandria, the birth place of America, home of the Runestone and where the Vikings landed, at least, according to legend
), so maybe I was inherently more accustomed to the cold and snow. I guess if you are coming from warmer climes then it could definitely be a huge shock.Re-reading my post, I realize I am probably not really refuting your comments as it can get bad at times, but they cope with it pretty well.

Like I said before Your Athletic Director makes or breaks your athletic programs . Especially when it comes to choosing a coach for football and Men’s basketball. Illinois has the best Athletic Director in country. People keep talking about how bad Illinois basketball was under Groce . Groce should have never been the University of Illinois men’s basketball coach in the first place. I knew Groce was not going to work out. Tim Beckman should’ve of never been the Illinois Football Coach. Mike Thomas screwed Illinois in both sports. The Tim Beckman players scandal got rid of him and Mike Thomas and We got Josh Whitman

My campus visit to Minny in December 2004 certainly made a hard decision much easier.

Minnesota is not a basketball school . In my opinion Minnesota doesn’t really care about any sports .PJ Fleck in football is an Ok coach. Minnesota is cheap and their fan base is not passionate
