Curious to watch Maryland play today. We seemed off and out of sorts last night with shots coming up short. Almost like we played the day before and they didn’t. See how the turtles respond today.

Sure, I guess…kind of? I realize variables like this do make a difference. But to blame a game like this solely on a short tournaround is reductive. I mean, for one thing…no one escapes short turnarounds in tournament play. You can’t put it all on that. You gotta play better or earn a double bye. It’s that simple.

Also, I know you are not…but I honestly don’t get; blaming the referees for every loss, or 11 0’clock games being too early for us crap, or whining about draws…in multiple years. I mean life sucks-get a helmet.

In this case, I do think Maryland is soundly the superior team physicality-wise and athletically… but even within that…there’s still a range of reasons we got shellacked like we did.

It all starts on the defensive end. The Illini have been thoroughly unprepared defensively in many games this season, and dig themselves holes that are too deep to climb out. That is a coaching issue (and one that needs to be fixed in offseason staff changes...Hamer be gone).

The extra game played Thurs definitely did not help, as the superior physical team was on long rest. It was a nightmare matchup for us. That still does not account for the beatdown though.

Given the poor defense, the Illini need to shoot at a reasonable percent from 3, but the team is not composed of great shooters. This is a combination of some poor roster construction/poor scouting and poor gameplanning.

The main hope is that the Illini get a favorable draw with less physical teams and the team goes on a tear shooting. Sadly, this team was talked up as F4 contenders in January but will be fortunate to get to S16. If the team plays defense optional like this week, then we very well might see a 1 and done in the tourney.

I'd like to see Maryland win today (even though I can't stand them), but the only game that probably matters to the Illini for seeding purposed is for St. John's to beat Creighton.

Creighton is currently a 9 seed. You think they will leapfrog us into a 6?

Hurley really rubs me the wrong way. He's a crybaby and simply refuses to set a good example for younger people. He's a great coach aside from that.
He makes Jim Harbaugh look socially polished and gracious, which is quite a feat.

Also... he's done that "I have two rings" BS as he taunts the taunters walking off the floor many times. I first saw it last season or the previous one when UConn barely escaped a lower-division Butler team on the road. He can really be a low-rent tool.

I just don’t get what would be appealing to playing for someone like that. Yes he has championships but he isn’t the only one if your good enough to play there.

I know this is probably a foolish question. Could Ty Rogers lose his red shirt if he decided to play in the NCAA tournament? Just asking for clarification.
