NCAA Tournament Bracket

Would've liked if Marquette was the 7 seed in our region. Or Gonzaga. Gives more chance for Tennessee to be knocked out before the s16. UCLA isn't capable talent wise.

For me - Meh about the 11 seed matchup, but think we got the best 3 seed matchup and best location; so probably a take. I could definitely see us in the s16, but could also be a first round exit.

Ahead of our beloved's game on Friday, as I'm sure you're aware, there is a pretty good slate of college basketball this week. Kenpom has an interesting tool called FanMatch, which each game is attributed a "Thrill Score". Essentially, the higher the score, the more likely it is that it will be a good game.

I've created a cheat sheet/schedule for the week through Friday using the top half of games based on "Thrill Score" (note: does not include the post-play in round games).

No matter what some on here may think, it's not a...

“No matter how good your reasons are for suspicion at including North Carolina, going against the stated criteria the Committee allegedly uses, I will simply call you a Conspiracy Theorist™️ and not consider the possibility the Committee allowed itself to be biased.”

Come on, dude. Mocking someone as a conspiracy theorist for even suggesting anything ever doesn’t pass the smell test is a religious-like expert worship that is just as silly as being gullible and believing in every conspiracy theory you hear! We weren’t in the room, so we (which includes you!) don’t and cannot know all the details … but people have good reasons to think it was a really bad decision by the Committee, and they’re not lunatics for simply connecting dots and wondering…

Jerry Palm finishes near last out of 200+ brackets. In terms of getting the seed right, he was 18 teams lower then those at the top - legit impressively bad stuff. He won’t even take accountability and continued to talk last night like he knows something. Working for a CBS used to hold weight, I guess not anymore. His 5 year average will continue to be near the bottom. Pathetic

Lunardi wasn’t great at just above 100.

Shows that these guys aren’t all that great.

It doesn't pass YOUR smell test. Their Q1 and Q2 records were basically the same. The predictive metrics (which we all hoped the committee looked at for our own team) were significantly better for UNC than WVU.

No one "simply connected dots and wondered". They found a way to connect dots that fit THEIR narrative and accused the AD and the committee of bias.

It's exactly why we're in the mess we're in with this current administration. People want to believe in conspiracy theories very badly. Not everything is nefarious.

Identifying conspiricy theorists in today's world is akin to shooting fish in a barrel. They're everywhere. Literally. (I know what that word means, scolds).

At the same time: the UNC AD failed to avoid the appearance of impropriety. In the world I lived in, appearance of impropriety was regarded as impropriety. I always thought that was a harsh and unfair standard. But I knew what it was, and avoided it. UNC AD had to have known this too, and failed.

I have no sympathy.

Honestly, as I look at the resumes I think the UNC v. WVU thing is getting blown out of proportion.

UNC NET: 36
WVU NET: 51

UNC Kenpom: 33
WVU Kenpom: 53

UNC T-Rank: 36
WVU T-Rank: 33

Yes, WVU has a clear advantage in Q1 record, but when you look at it as Q1+Q2 it comes out very close:
UNC Q1+Q2: 9-12
WVU Q1+Q2: 10-13

WVU has better, much better, signature wins. But UNC has looked better than WVU recently. Since January, UNC's only losses are to Duke and away vs. Clemson. That being said, the quality of opponents has been very weak.

I agree that WVU should have made it in over UNC. But I also ultimately don't think it's more egregious than the kind of snubs that invariably happen every year.
Thank you for posting this. I was tempted to do my own post about this but was lazy.

However, I did have enough drive to look at recent Torvik numbers, and goi g back about a month UNC is sitting at 16, significantly better than where WVU has been during the same time frame.

While getting to the 2nd weekend might be a stretch it would not shock me to see UNC in the 2nd round this year.

Have you ever worked in a business setting? We have rules like that too and you can bet the absentee’s friends still take care of him or her.

CEO can’t be present while his comp is discussed by the Board but somehow it goes up again, year after year.

UNC got in on name alone. (I have to find something to get worked up about, can’t complain about a 6 in Milwaukee.) haha
This is why the committee should never see team's names, just data.

St John's largest loss this season was by 3 points. That is just crazy, IMO. Pitino is THE man in New York.

I'm sure this has been discussed, but can someone explain to me how #10 Louisville is an 8 seed? I could see not being a 3 because the ACC is pretty weak, but an 8? That seems a stretch.

It basically comes down to Q1 record.

They're 24 in NET
58th SOS
And just 4-6 in Q1 games.

Compare that to Clemson who got a 5.

22 in NET
76th SOS
5-3 in Q1 games.

Editing to add: I think they were slightly underseeded but not egregiously so.

They beat Clemson twice, and have won 21 of their last 23 games. I could see them as a 5, but an 8? I'd be pretty upset if I were Auburn. A top 10 team in the 2nd round for the 1 seed is nuts.

I'm not disputing that it looks bad. It absolutely does. But the selection committee rules are set up in such a way that the chair could have not been in the room when UNC was being discussed.

Yeah I think the lesson learned here is you have to anticipate this scenario and have something in the committee rules that any member can't receive any compensation or bonus from their day job that would create the appearance of impropriety. As I said before I think the WVU v. UNC debate is vastly overstating the case that WVU was deserving, but the bonus is certainly a bad look. I'm surprised he hasn't announced he's donating it to charity yet. Damage control 101.

It’s pretty simple. Look at Q1 wins. They won 4 of them. Just 1 Q1A win.

We’re a 6 seed, we have 8 Q1 wins (2x as many) and 4 Q1A wins (4x as many).

Marquette, a 7 seed, has 6 Q1 wins and 2 Q1A wins.

The AP poll is not factored into seeding. Think about how good our record would have been and where we would have been ranked in the AP poll had we played 8 less Q1 games this season. Lousville played 7 Q3 games. We played 0. Based on resume, Lousville is seeded right around where they should be.

Since Q1 wins were used so heavily in their seeding, the fact that UNC got in over West Virginia is an absolute travesty. Same with Xavier.
