DB, can Beerman start? Is he 6’5” now? Are they looking at him as an edge due to his size?Trimble but don't expect much out of true freshmen anymore.
Beerman & Boyd as well

Reminder that the NCAA is the deciding factor hereBig time addition if it happens. Edwards, Neal and Warren is a very good rotation at nose. This defense is stacked
I wonder what the rationale is.Reminder that the NCAA is the deciding factor here… but they think they have a real chance
Its in one of the pressers. Bret said it's because of bad book keeping on how many games he played at NU. They believed he had only played 3 games in one year but it was actually 5 and one of the reasons they were so invested in him is because Bret thought it was 3 games.I wonder what the rationale is.
RS 2020 covid
Says he played each season after.
Maybe related to Fitzgerald/ hazing issues? Did team get free transfer eligible afterwards?
Medical issue supposed RS freshman year?

He played a 5th game one year at NU at was playing like less than 10% of snaps is the base reasoningAs Illinois fans, he would be a great re-addition.
As CFB fans, I just have a tough time stomaching this if NCAA says yes. They (NCAA) keep losing in court (and judges are ripping them in their decisions) because they keep making exceptions that end up making eligibility rules unenforceable.

That's a good list. I'll add, these two have already taken some steps, Malachi Hood and Jaheim Clarke. Seems like too many QB's or RB get the corner and our LB's are trailing. Hood was the only LB that made Lausch (NW) look slow.Heckel

Get your point. It's just a matter of the NCAA having essentially zero power now, so they may as well try to get an extra year.I get it, but you can see a variety of judges saying the NCAA refuses to enforce a threshold for eligibility. The rule is games, not snaps. If the NCAA says that playing more than a fourth game means you've burned a year of eligibility, then you can't then say it's okay that you play (say) seven extra snaps in the fifth game, because what if it's 10 snaps? 15 snaps? Just come up with a rule, say you can't cross it, enforce it regardless of circumstance, and you might stop losing every court case.
I remember we had a laugh on these boards when Locksley was looking at getting Tualia an extra year of eligibility because he threw 12 passes in five games for Alabama as a freshman. Now our coaching staff is essentially asking for the same thing.

I'll throw out a wild opinion. Bailey needs to tackle better. He side swipes way too often. He'll occasionally square up a runner but not often enough. Not exactly a fair comparison but if you watch Thieneman from PU (Now Oregon), that guy squares up a runner and drops him. Overall the D needs to improve a notch or two for Illinois to have a prayer to make the playoffs.
Gave up a huge run to South Carolina because Bailey tried to just shoulder check the RB to the ground. He has the size and athleticism, but it's not quite the Quan Martin "how is he everywhere on the field???" Or Syd Brown/Witherspoon noticeably flying around on the field like they're possessed. That's a good list. I'll add, these two have already taken some steps, Malachi Hood and Jaheim Clarke.
