Exactly. Saying a coach’s success is a carry job by XXX player is one of the stupidest takes ever. Name one championship team which didn’t have someone who “carried” the team.

If you wanna go there, Hurley’s carry job by Clingan beat Painter’s carry job by Edey. 🤷

Duke up 17 at half. Pretty rare occurrence (over the last few years at least) that's there's gonna be no 1 seed losing before the S16 and no top 4 seed losing in Round 1.

True, but Clingan played 31 minutes against Purdue. And he was the main reason our Illini couldn't score against them. Plus he had 22 points against the Illini.

Beard would if he were also a incontinently pugnacious, stream-of-consciousness invective-spewing, sore-losing narcissist. I can't ever recall a national title-winning coach with such a lack of sportsmanship, self-awareness, and graciousness. Bob Knight looked positively civilized compared with Hurley.

In my case it's not "raging hate." Its an amalgam of pity (for his utter lack of self control) and contempt for the guy. Jim Boeheim was a royal a$$ but, again, possessed the demeanor of a monk compared with Hurley.

I'm aware of how much abuse he took from the Seton Hall fans as a player, his third-fiddle status in the looming shadow that his father and brother cast, and his battle with deep depression and self-loathing as a result. I have great compassion for him, accordingly. All of that makes his behavior even more unseemly and contemptible.

Flagg has “committed” his third foul four times in the last three minutes. Baylor breathes on Duke—foul. Duke mugging Baylor every time and almost no calls. Wow. Not sure I’ve seen such a blatantly unfair whistle. Baylor is living in the lane and zero calls.

If Baylor were taking nothing but 3’s then maybe the foul discrepancy would be warranted. But they are attacking on every possession and Duke literally mugging the Baylor players and zero calls. Duke doesn’t even need the blatant home cooking. But this is just wrong.

I agree with everything you've said, but I also think it's great for the sport as a whole to have such an unabashed [choose your own characterization - all of mine would/should trip the censor function...] for everyone else to root against.

I mean this is literally the description of every single Duke basketball game the last 30 years. It’s a mad lib where you simply swap out individual players and Duke’s opponent

There's a reason why professional wrestling has survived as sports entertainment for decades. They always have the bad guy to root against. Entertainment is always better when you have the "bad guy" in the storyline.

This is something a lot of sports fans need to understand.

We all inherently love the good guy/bad guy storyline. It's built into us. Baseball has the hardest time with this (see Bauer, Trevor).
