Why not Tre?
Actually Ben played 13 min had 7 boards,0 TOs and hit both FTs. Didn't take a shot. I preferred that tonight over what Will had. I really think Will needs another year to play against the B10, get stronger, before dealing with more strong guys he struggled against tonight. If he isn't assured of a top 20 or so pick come back like TSJ and Ayo did and Kofi likely should have. Will get well pd and move up draft boards. If he is guaranteed a top 20 pick then go.

It was a fine season, wanted a second weekend. Huge offseason ahead, I will have more information these coming hours for ya'll as to where things stand.

ILL
Appreciate your contributions and information, always. But I have to say this season was not fine. Terrible roster construction and extremely sub - par coaching. For as good as OA is as a recruiter, and experienced as Geoff is, they couldn't help a kid thrust into an over-his-head role with the defensive side of things? Don't we have one of the highest paid staffs in the game? Same mistakes game after game. BU couldn't see what was happening and make changes? No OOB plays all year. Constant turnover problems from our guards. Coming out looking ill prepared to play, few adjustments, and losing games we should not be losing (especially at home), continuing to fire threes when not making them while being in bonus? Just a few of the "not fine" things this year.

Now, there were some fine moments. The Oregon game, the Arkansas win on Thanksgiving, the Michigan win, the Xavier win. But, overall, ending at 22-13 is not fine for a program that commits the level of resources to the program that IL does. Hopefully, lessons were learned, BU is able to continue his mostly good portal work, and is able to retain players that have to be retained. Most importantly, put together a staff that can put whoever the players end up being in as good of a position to succeed as a top program does.

I bet you’re exactly right…but if he didn’t feel that way that would be a real problem.

Unacceptable to bring him back … Even if it’s free …

He is a momentum killer !!!!!!
Complete misevaluation in offseason (that is 100% on coaching staff). The stage was simply too big for his skillset. The fact that we spent so much for him, is ridiculous (which is likely why he gets so much heat from many of us). I wish him the best with his final season, but it needs to be at a lower level (or a power conference team that does not have final 4/national championship goals).

See y’all in August
August! Next year starts now! (I apologize, as it sounds like I am advocating for crazy. Which I am, I know. Unlike me and some other basketball loons, normal humans, with normal lives, ought to simply enjoy the Illini however and whenever they choose to do so, obviously!)

Which means we are horrible competitors. Deer-in-headlights puppy dogs (is that a mixed metaphor?)

Complete misevaluation in offseason.
Yes. There have been more of these than casual fans notice. I bet our AD is going to share your view, and despite knowing that misevals happen often, will have a discussion with the chief evaluator about doing better in this regard. The batting average for staff, last year in the portal, was much too low.

Humbrickhouse better not be in an Illinois uniform next year

If this roster all had Kylan's heart hustle and muscle we'd be sitting pretty in the S16...

We lost to a good team that took advantage of our turnovers, like the good teams do. Turnover margin of -9, KY FG of 41%, that's 4 baskets = 8 or 9 points, margin of loss of 9 points, that's the game.

Might be the most conflicting and frustrating Illini team I've ever seen. Could beat anyone when they were on (see Oregon), but also had too many self inflicted wounds.
ILL and onto the next

That's the difference between high major elite shooters and mid major shooters. He needs way too much time. I understand why he's used to performing with that much time however bc he practices against our defense which is predicated on letting guys have all the time in the world to both shoot and run freely to receive the ball at their spots and freely start their actions.
Koby Brea came from Dayton

It's his view. I guess yours is different. He's likely not in contact with NBA guys, which I suspect is much like your situation.

Uuuuuhhhh, no. We had two NBA first round draft picks, one of which of likely top 5 and a lottery pick. If we can't get out of the first weekend with that kind of talent and more, BU and the entire program does not get pass.
I keep being told that KJ will be drafted on potential. That means he's not really ready to be a top five contributor in the draft class. That means he'll maybe be ready to start in a few years. We can't have it both ways.

Today he's a freshman and freshmen are mistake prone. He's also a liability on defense. They called it out during the game. He got lit up by three different UK guards.

Will Riley is unlikely to be a lottery pick.

Sophomore KJ and Will would make us a Final Four contender. But we won't get to see that I guess.

Reload and get players we can build around instead of guys we won't ever see rise to their full potential.
