Season 3 Smiling GIF by The Simpsons

Lol at 3 things Brad said there:
1) He has the best staff in the country- False.
2) How did he turn Will Riley crying into it being about him? Riley didn't cry because of Underwood or anything he's done for him- the kid cried because he gave his heart to this team and the season and now it's over. He's going pro- and his college career is done.
3) "you guys care about the wins and losses". Uh ya Brad, we sure do. You don't get paid millions of dollars to be a buddy to players after their time here is done. I'd actually say you're not all that great at building relationships considering how many players and coaches have left your program.

Changes need to be made … This team didn’t meet expectations … 7th in the Big Ten … Beating an 11 seed ??? Not good enough …

Hamer fired … Tyler demoted … Kwa demoted …

Kylan, Rez, Tomi and Tre back … Everyone else can go … And for crying out loud … BRING ME A VETERAN POINT GUARD WHO CAN HANDLE THE BALL !!!!!!

Portal opens tomorrow … Get to work …
I like Boswell as the point guard. I would love to see he ivisic and morez back as our core next year. Would be ok with white as well if he can handle a 6th/7th man role. Just can’t see KJ in the NBA in the next 2-3 years. He’s a great player don’t get me wrong but he needs more development. He’s waaaay to loose with the ball. Tough season. Frustrating knowing how talented this group is. Still happy with Brad as our coach. But really want more toughness and leadership in our players. I said earlier in the season we were lacking a leader as a player. I said it’s crazy to think a freshman could be the leader but I still think morez could be the guy moving forward. Morez and Boswell are our toughest hardest working players hands down. Bring in more guys like them!

So if you are saying that the hand is part of the ball then if nothing else it was a kicked ball being the defender hit it with his foot, right.

I don’t know why people are shocked by this outcome and how the team played this year. We replaced the entire roster except for 1. Chester and TA leaving and resulting fall out were big losses. Brad recruited talent and went young because I think they missed in the portal.
Probably hoped to build a team for the future like Mich St or Purdue or last yrs team. Problems: your 2 most talented guys you’re recruited are most likely leaving. Tomi, and if Riley stays have to get bigger and stronger, we need Morez to develop an offensive game. We’ll need another high quality handling/shooting pg/sg hopefully older. A back up center. Need a legitimate 3 pt shooter like Plummer (who can play some D).
Also Brad needs to get less reliant on the 3 ball and go back to demanding quality defense. My main problem with Brad is the love of the 3 ball. I don’t want to lose him he has won way too many games here. Been our best coach that I remember and that go’s back to Henson yrs from the early 80’s. Sometimes the grass isn’t greener. People were asking for Sean Miller and we bounced them out in the 1st round.
It's the analytics thing. They should be taken into consideration but you shouldn't live and die by them. Cost us the chance of having a great season by dying on the analytics hill.

To your point about TO's, I can't help but think of the bind TA sitting out put our guards in. I could be wrong, but he is/was the lead assistant for our guards. I'm sure Kwa is a fine person, but he is not near as refined as TA is at developing guard play. Assuming OA doesn't leave, this will be a huge offseason for Tomi and Rez on big man development. A full offseason is going to be gigantic.
TA didn't leave for no reason. Neither did Chester.

As the head coach, it's BU's job to create a culture that can retain top assistants unless they leave for promotions. So thats still on BU.

One thing that is stuck in my craw is that we get blown out EVERY single tournament. Why can’t we play well and be prepared?

It seems every year we play a team that is well prepared against us and we simply have no answer , Loyola, Houston , Arkansas, UConn and now Kentucky. We excuse it by saying “that was a really good team” or “bad matchup” but in reality we just weren’t prepared. Any 2 day turnaround game our staff is completely unprepared for. That just has to change- we need a staff that can get a team prepared in one practice- other teams do it and we can’t

Based on this team being entirely new and young, do you think Illini fans overrated them? I mean imagine how could they would be if KJ and Will stayed through their junior years.

I watched ever game on tv this year and traveled to MSG to see them live. Year was a success. We beat Mizz, Mich.Ind, UCLA, and Oregen. We had some disappointing losses mostly caused by the flu/injury bug.

Will and KJ not NBA ready but they are gone to next level. Tomi, Morez, Kylan, and Tre would be a solid core. I think we need that 6-5+ SG scorer. Also PG off the bench along with another wing and big. Next several months will be interesting.

We didn’t get blown out tonight. We didn’t take care of the ball which hurt our offense.

UCONN and Houston were blow outs and didn’t look like we belonged. In those games we got destroyed. In our defense UCONN blew out everyone

The way I understand it, TA sat out because of money. Color me shocked if TA gets OA money going into next season from any school. I think he would've been best served coaching another tournament bound team with a couple of NBA players and parlayed that into a bigger payday either here or elsewhere. But hey, he still collected illinois money and got to do his clinics. I like TA a great deal, wish it would've worked out. Him, OA, and GA would be pretty electric on the trail.
Chester is another story.

I've noticed this as well. We seem ok when we have time to scout and practice but we don't just lose when the turn around time is short but lose big and shell shocked . It's not like the other teams in the tourney have more time yet they look like they do.... Despite our often talent advantage and even experience level.

We put together a completely new team with effectively two assistant coaches and won a tournament game. There's far worse outcomes with how we were looking mid-season. I think we have a good base to build from player-wise and I think we'll hire at least two more assistant coaches worth a damn.

A six seed losing to a three seed hurts a lot less than a one seed losing to an eight seed.
