George Costanza Flirting GIF by MOODMAN
Haven't heard about Constanza for a while. Whether that resembles if reclass is still very much on the table.... or even if the staff would be all that interested....

I don’t think I’m comfortable going through the portal with Morez and Tre written in the starting lineup in pen. Kylan is more of an off guard. Morez is a tweener that I don’t want shooting 3s. For right now I’m Kylan & Tomi should be only two absolute no doubt starters. We need a primary PG and a 4 imo. Maybe Tre could settle in, in year 2 but be was an absolute roller coaster especially with his 3 point shooting & even he wasn’t a plus defender.

Lol I compared Durkin to Jake Davis. I think he would be a cheap bench shooter type not a defensive specialist. Also, I think he is a more fluid and explosive athlete than both Davis and Goode plus i think he has the frame to get stronger working with Fletch(lack of lower body strength really hurt Goode and Hum defensively).
Davis and Durkin shot pretty much the same from 3 this season. Jake seemed to have a knack for getting offensive rebounds. He average .5 in 10 minutes a game compared to Bobby’s .7 in 33 minutes. As a GW alum, I love when Hilltoppers wear the Orange and Blue but I think Davis is better than Durkin and already in the program.

This comment is going to veer off into a recruiting direction that's a little more vague, but it's worthy to bring up. The portal has indirectly hurt the NCAA Tournament. Its happening this year and it will be similar going forward, but the tournament is going to turn into picking chalks.

Not one seed below 12 won a game and most of the first round games between the higher and lower seeds were blowouts. I don't think that there was a 13 or 14 seed that was remotely competitive, which is the best part of the whole event.

The teams with the top NIL dollars are going to fill out the higher seeds and the mid to low majors will continue to be a farm system for the big guys, thus weakening the ability of the lower seeds

I think the days of having multiple 5 seeds and lower in the sweet 16 and elite 8 are over. Arkansas is the lowest seeded team left and they're loaded with talent and a ball of fame coach that's bringing it together.

I think that the horses are out of the barn now, just just as well flex out money muscles as well and load up.

This has killed college football. Just hoping it doesn't do the same to basketball.
While portal/NIL no doubt has a major impact it’s also important to consider this on a multi year level before we rush too deep into conclusions. Statistically the best teams this year were the best by a rather substantial margin. There’s always going to be tournament variance with some years being more chalk than others. Compounding these two factors you get a result like this.

Also we should keep in mind while the tournament was chalk and filled with power conference teams, it’s not like the particular configuration of teams was easy to identify at the start of the season as you’d expect if NIL has killed all suspense in college basketball and lead to a gap too large on a repeatable basis. Kansas was the preseason number 1 team and ended up a 7 seed and first round exit. UConn was the preseason number three team and 2X defending champion that ended up an 8 seed. North Carolina was preseason number 9 and ended up in the first four. Indiana 17, Cincinnati 20 both missed the field. On the other hand, Florida was preseason number 21 and is a 1 seed and serious threat to win. We’re only two years removed from a 16 over 1 and third straight year with a 15 over 2. It’s far too premature for me to say “upsets are dead!” just because this has been a very chalky tournament with a bunch of first round blowouts.

Is there any number that brings Riley back? Honestly floating him a 2M bag or whatever the top rate is this offseason would probably be worth it. Kid would have a very good chance at POTY with a summer of work. I don't know what number he no longer makes sense at but it is a large one.

I get that he is exactly what GMs want despite being so raw but make it as hard as possible to say no to coming back.

Will reminds me so much of Kelly Oubre

Anyway, yeah... if there ends up being any talk of him being in 2nd round... we need to have a very large bag prepared

Yep #1 priority, IMO, should be a PG who has great handles, great D, and can get to the hoop. 40% from 3 would be nice too. Does such a player exist in the portal? I sure hope so and we open up the money bags to get him. Then maybe a true 4 who can also do some of those things.

You mean there's a thing you can search literally anything you want and it will find you the answer? When was that invented? I'd much rather just post obvious questions here for other people to answer for me.

The problem is that if WR comes back we lose Sarr, according to the insiders so maybe that's a wash?
At any rate, I hope WR goes in the middle of the 1st round making this moot.

Can someone please explain to me exactly how the portal works. Specifically if a player enters the portal, can he come back to the team or does he HAVE to go elsewhere. Tia.
IIRC, he can come back but the original team no longer has the obligation to keep his scholly open for him.

Yes he can go back but the team isn’t required to bring him back. In many places, players have far more of a guarantee of staying on athletic scholarship if they don’t enter the portal.

- The staff wanting Ty to come back and then Ty considering it is good news IMO. I think Ty would be an awesome, defense first, glue guy off the bench and I would welcome him back in that role. It may also speak to his options from other schools...

- Tre is 50/50 for me. If price is right, fine, but I wouldn't see it as a devastating loss.

- I am on the Big Z train if he wants to come here. I think he would be an excellent backup big.
Maybe, unlike some players, the degree matters to him

Dix was in one of the most friendly offensive schemes in the league... If he were going to be a top 10 player in the conference because of his offensive potential- it would've likely already happened. He's extremely talented shooting 3's and has a little wiggle offensively to get his shot off the dribble and in the midrange. But he is extremely limited at attacking the hoop and we routinely attacked him on defense. Again- he's not very strong and has never shown to be a dog.
If we are going to give all his offensive credit to the coach, shouldn’t the coach take some of the heat for his defense? It’s not like Fran’s teams were known for shutting people down.
If he comes to Illinois, he’s going to get stronger. It’s a big part of what we do.

I have yet to see anyone, people in support of adding him nor those who are not, refer to him as 'big splash'... first I've seen this term used, or anything similar, really

With that lineup: you really think Dix is the only player we are gonna add?
I don't think he's the only player they would add but unless you think another add is coming that would push White to a bench/6th man type role that I don't necessarily think he would accept would lead me to believe that Dix would be the big splash/starting lineup addition(I don't think Dix is going anywhere to not start).

That would leave you with Boswell, Dix, White, Morez, and Tomi then say Sarr, transfer rim protecting big, and another transfer guard off the bench. I just don't think you're going to get a difference maker with only a bench role to offer.

I think that's a good roster that could finish in the top 5 of the Big10 but I don't think that's a team that's seriously competing for a national championship which is really what the goal should be? Right?

That roster would also make Dix the go to guy offensively when I think he would be far better suited as a secondary scorer. Now it's a different story if you're talking about adding Dix and still getting an all American caliber guy like Jamir Watkins.

Didn't Tre have a spar with coach during the season and was benched for a few games because of it? Or was that just a rumor? Regardless, I agree, he's the one I wouldn't mind losing, and I would take Ty over him.

Not like Illinois has been shutting teams down defensively either.

Fran is a great offensive coach though. Always had very good offenses despite not having much talent or athleticism.

I don't think anyone thinks he's not good enough. I think people are questioning him being the big splash.

Would you be that excited of a lineup with Boswell, Dix, White, Morez, and Ivisic? I think he would be great as a secondary/tertiary scorer on a team that can cover up for him defensively but I don't see the roster fit at Illinois of him being the guy.
That would be a very good lineup. Yes I'd be excited.

I want Sarr also.

I actually really like that roster, and Watkins would be phenomenal but he isn't in the portal. He entered the portal last year only to return to FSU.

As fans, we may as well treat things like we don't know who is going to be available. Dix is being pursued by Kansas, Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama... I'm just reading lists from articles... but I think LVille also mentioned a couple of these programs.

As far as being better as a 2nd option, anybody is better as a 2nd option if you go get a better guy. Last season we apparently had plenty of NIL available for big-time adds late in the process, no need to assume it's going to be Dix, Sarr and two guys we've never heard of from NjIT
