I'll say this, we will have a huge advantage over the rest of the conference outside of Purdue. Bringing a ton of core guys back and multiple who can be All League. Hit on two good players along with one or two role guys in the portal plus adding Sarr while retaining a good portion of your core, and next year will be fun.
I remember this was a 2 year plan.

It just continues to be a bummer that the stars are no longer what you're growing, but the supporting players for the big money dudes you bring in.

He would not be able to defend in the Big Ten. Too slow to keep in front of guards/wings and too small to matchup with bigs. Pierce seems like he has followed the Domask path of being an undersized 4 in a lower conference that might be able to move a guard in a P5.
Lol I compared Durkin to Jake Davis. I think he would be a cheap bench shooter type not a defensive specialist. Also, I think he is a more fluid and explosive athlete than both Davis and Goode plus i think he has the frame to get stronger working with Fletch(lack of lower body strength really hurt Goode and Hum defensively).

Pierce is not Domask. Domask while being able to play in the post really was a wing at SIU and handled the ball on the perimeter a ton. Pierce plays more of a stretch big type role. Domask was taking pull up 3's and took double the 3pt attempts at SIU than Pierce took at Princeton.

I agree, I like Tre, but if he decides to go elsewhere, he's easily replaced, IMO
And I prefer less drama or whatever the heck that was in the middle of a season.
Skill-wise, and even athleticism-wise, yes: he can be replaced. But culture-wise? No. I think Tre has turned the most important corner any young person can turn in life. Now, we need a guy like Tre.

Our program needs to get back to valuing culture. I think that is going to be the biggest change in the year coming. Culture; toughness; committment. And therefore winning.

When Tre was signed last Spring, I said I was "unimpressed." I didn't want a kid from two loser programs (USC, Louisville).

After this year, watching his (exasperating) ups and downs, thinking it over and learning that he wants to come back -- if the price is right, and it should be, we need to bring back a kid that can accept the hard-nosed coaching our head coach doles out. I now think Tre is, today, exactly what we need during desparate times on the court. And there will be desparate times when pursuing a National Championship. I hope we get him back.
From what I've seen of him up close, he's also quite the character and helps get/keep the guys loose. He came across as the class clown of the group, which is needed. CoHawk was that guy for us previously. Again, that's from the very, very little time that I saw them in practice.Maybe those closer to the team can confirm that.

Hes really good... I'm surprised some would think he isn't good enough... look at the list of teams showing interest... all you need to know
I don't think anyone thinks he's not good enough. I think people are questioning him being the big splash.

Would you be that excited of a lineup with Boswell, Dix, White, Morez, and Ivisic? I think he would be great as a secondary/tertiary scorer on a team that can cover up for him defensively but I don't see the roster fit at Illinois of him being the guy.

Thanks for sharing those observations, and insight. Character is the most important single thing in choosing players for your team. :)

- The staff wanting Ty to come back and then Ty considering it is good news IMO. I think Ty would be an awesome, defense first, glue guy off the bench and I would welcome him back in that role. It may also speak to his options from other schools...

- Tre is 50/50 for me. If price is right, fine, but I wouldn't see it as a devastating loss.

- I am on the Big Z train if he wants to come here. I think he would be an excellent backup big.

This comment is going to veer off into a recruiting direction that's a little more vague, but it's worthy to bring up. The portal has indirectly hurt the NCAA Tournament. Its happening this year and it will be similar going forward, but the tournament is going to turn into picking chalks.

Not one seed below 12 won a game and most of the first round games between the higher and lower seeds were blowouts. I don't think that there was a 13 or 14 seed that was remotely competitive, which is the best part of the whole event.

The teams with the top NIL dollars are going to fill out the higher seeds and the mid to low majors will continue to be a farm system for the big guys, thus weakening the ability of the lower seeds

I think the days of having multiple 5 seeds and lower in the sweet 16 and elite 8 are over. Arkansas is the lowest seeded team left and they're loaded with talent and a ball of fame coach that's bringing it together.

I think that the horses are out of the barn now, just just as well flex out money muscles as well and load up.

This has killed college football. Just hoping it doesn't do the same to basketball.

The teams with the best player/players always have a chance at a championship title regardless of level. All of us in years past felt confident because we had guys like Ayo, Kofi and TJ. I love our returning guys as of now as they are also necessary culture and winning guys but the staff needs to identify who is an alpha that will be the best 1 or 2 players on the court each and every night and lock that player up. That guy plus our returning core and all of us will be confident we can win every night as we did last year once TJ came back.
I Iike Dix as part of the equation but not if he is asking for TJ nil money. Unless Staff believes they can get TJ production out of him as a senior.

I would be ecstatic with that lineup

I'm puzzled at how you would know this. Are you on the staff perhaps? One of the beat writers maybe?

I have yet to see anyone, people in support of adding him nor those who are not, refer to him as 'big splash'... first I've seen this term used, or anything similar, really

With that lineup: you really think Dix is the only player we are gonna add?

Is there any number that brings Riley back? Honestly floating him a 2M bag or whatever the top rate is this offseason would probably be worth it. Kid would have a very good chance at POTY with a summer of work. I don't know what number he no longer makes sense at but it is a large one.

I get that he is exactly what GMs want despite being so raw but make it as hard as possible to say no to coming back.
