Really? I'm forgetting people. Who were the NBA players that I'm forgetting and rough years if you can remember?

Just in terms of players that were drafted, there's Devin Harris, Alando Tucker, Jon Leuer, Frank Kaminsky, and Sam Dekker that were there during his time in Madison.

The "rough" years (and even that may be a stretch would be from the 08/09 through 2012/13) when they finished 4th or tied for 4th most years with a 3rd place finish lumped in there. His worst seasons in terms of overall record when they went 19-13 in 01/02 (though still won a share of the conference title) and 05/06 when they went 19-12.

There were quite a few...more than I remember / expected.

Here is the source I used. If you click on a year, it'll show you the roster and will have an NBA logo next to the players who played in the pros.

Below is their roster from the 2015 national runner up team as an example.

Yeah, not at all costs. Dude choked his fiance. I don’t want him on my team anymore than I’d want Tyreek Hill or Adrian Peterson.
He was never convicted and there are only two people who really know the whole story. The more telling story would be if he displayed other similar behavior in the past. If not, he paid a hefty price in being fired from his previous employer and has had no more issues since that incident that I am aware of.

There were bruises on her neck. So he did actually choke her. What she did is claim it was her fault. She said she attacked him first.

If we need a new head coach, I think I might hope it’s not Beard. I think I can personally look at that story and say that Beard shouldnt be judged as guilty by the court of public opinion, but I think he nonetheless will be. With how difficult it is to be a college basketball fan these days, I don’t know if I have it in me to have to defend my coach when literally only two people in the world actually know what happened. If Beard becomes our coach, I’ll probably support him. But man I wish it didn’t come with the baggage, deserved or undeserved, that it will.

80% of domestic abuse victims recant their statements. That's the more telling story.

And while I'm all for second chances, statically it is likely that he will reoffend at some point in the near future (whether he gets caught is a different story). So, I'd rather that not happen while he's representing our university (rather it not happen at all obviously).

Okay… only one of those players (Kamminsky) had anything more than a cup of coffee in the NBA. If you’re counting Dekkar, Hayes and Dukan, then Illinois gets to count Awvee Storey, Myke Henry and Brandon Paul.

Even a cup of coffee is a useful barometer of talent level.

The weird thing with Bo Ryan was that so often his most heralded recruits became long-term program guy role players where less hyped recruits were the stars.

Five stars Joe Krabbenhoft and Brian Butch supporting three star Alando Tucker the classic example.

If I recall there were a lot of fans condemning and not wanting Bret because he was a hell raiser and loved to party. I personally would trust Josh to do the due diligence required on Beard if he were to be considered as an Illini head coach. Court of public opinion can be pretty unjustified at times.

I would trust Josh to do due diligence if he were ever to seriously consider hiring Beard. WE do not know if this 80% fits their situation at home or not. Innocent until proven guilty should mean something still.

I don’t disagree, and I trust Josh just as much as anyone does. If he is hired, then I know some of the smartest people in sports have done their due diligence and he has passed the test. But It’s just inevitable that we will all have to defend the move in response to the haters unjustifiably painting the picture of “Illinois makes abuser one of the highest paid coaches in college basketball,” and that sounds so exhausting at this moment.

True and I don’t believe anyone is telling you that you have to. Carry on.

I’m not arguing that. I’m arguing against the original post that said Wisconsin put players in the NBA year after year after year. If cup of coffee careers count, then Illinois comes very close to that criteria as well. Hell, that means John Groce developed Kendrick Nunn and Malcolm Hill into NBA players.

Yeah, she recanted 11 days later after what were likely many conversations on the potential ramifications.
It may not have been a completely one sided incident, but the subsequent statements from both parties (which I'm sure were carefully vetted by lawyers) leave some gaping holes. After his hiring at Ole Miss, he made some very vague and passive comments

"Respectfully, Randi (Trew) and I have agreed not to talk about the details of what happened, not only that night, but in the nights we went through during this process," Beard said. "But what I can tell you is that much of what was reported is not accurate, and that has been proven with the case being dismissed and the charges being dropped, and also Randi's statement on December 23. I think that statement speaks for itself."
"Again, I am certainly not trying to avoid the question, but Randi and I have agreed not to discuss the details," Beard said. "There was a timeframe of what was reported and what was proven factual and not factual. Other statements were made and ultimately the charges were dismissed."

I'm guessing there was an agreement to exchange some money and make it all go away.

I’d certainly make the call if it was me …
I’ve always been a Brad supporter, but with White entering the portal and if the plan is to keep Tyler and Hamer, then I’m all for letting him go. Retention of Morez, Ivisic, Kylan, and White should have been offseason priority #1 to get older and have continuity.

I mean Brad knows the key is to be older and he has a football coach at the same University who has shown retention can work as a priority. I know football and basketball are different in regards to the portal but the philosophy still applies.
