I've been around the Illini internet for a long time now, I've seen a lot of message board insiders come and go.

The multi-year propaganda campaign of basically one guy on this board has been like nothing I've ever seen though, and to the quotes above has genuinely gotten to the point where if this is your primary Illini basketball information source it has bent reality into something really bizarre and ill-founded.

It's an entertaining schtick and I genuinely think the poster in question is one of the best here just for pure analysis reasons if nothing else, my problem is more with the masses taking it all

There are obviously politics and agendas at play with the team and staff, and some disagreement with the head coach and his decisions, which includes our insiders who air their feelings about it on the board. It shouldn't be treated as gospel, or impartial.

As far as transfers, if I were advising college players who had no clear future in the NBA, and given the current state of college b-ball and the market for players, I would tell them they have 4 years to maximize their income, and the best way to do it is to transfer, every year (as long as you're smart about the situation you're transferring into). As a fan I hate it, but they may never get a chance to make this kind of money. Can you imagine graduating at 23 with a couple mil in your bank account? It's transformative.
Regarding the first part, it is likely that our insiders are getting info from different sources inside the program. Their conclusions are based on what they hear from their contact. As with any break up, the reasons cited are going to fit the agenda of the party telling the story. It’s no wonder that one guy says it’s one thing and another says it’s something else. The truth is probably more nuanced and somewhere in the middle.
It sucks to have to rebuild again. Resetting retention is tough. I’m not sure coaches are responsible for retention as much as players’ commitment to each other. When you have constant churn, no one feels obligated to anyone. The money is getting wild, which certainly doesn’t help. Even if you love where you work, if someone is offering double, it’s pretty hard to say no. No situation is going to be perfect all the time. If someone is looking for justification to jump ship, they will find it.

This is the big turnoff for me. If we're going to pay 2 million in NIL for a player, I want it to be a player who won't give up the points he scores on the other end of the court. And in the B1G, it doesn't matter how good the other players we have are at locking down. Screens force switches, so at some point, Dix would be forced to guard an impact player with too much athleticism for him to handle.
247 transfer page says that he is a plus defender.

But man I had fun while I was raving. Reading the threads since Friday was not dancing with beautiful humans and living in psychedelic dreams. At least I could think back fondly with no regret.
And our insiders are being DMd? For real? Those that DM with less than graceful intent, are too ashamed to post their thoughts publicly for board scrutiny because deep down they it's !!!!!!.
This is our board, we should protect our own. Therefore. @illini0440 and @Littyville1 (hope i got the handles correct), share the DMs on the board and let the virtual stoning begin. I know most of the negativity comes from deep Illini love, I get it, but there is a line.
Stay positive yall. We will be alright.
Beautiful. Nah: burn the mother down. All of it. Then let's writhe naked in the ashes!

If @LvilleILL1 weighs the same as a duck, and is made of wood, he's a witch. 0440, too. Tyler's not a witch, 'cause he floats. Or something.

I've had it with those dudes givin' us stuff fer free here.

I don’t disagree with you- $2M is too much to pay for just about anyone, but to be clear, Dix is average defensively using the advanced stats. Plus he’s played three years in the big ten, so he’s had to guard the good SG’s in the league. I’d be more worried if he was coming from a mid major conference

We are NOT Iowa!!!! LOL! In the end, Dix will not sign with Illinois, but if he were to sign, we need an explosive player who can get to the rim.

I think some are looking at this in a negative light because of what they've read here. Money may not be the only reason, depending on your skills etc. It also might be offensive fit, coaching style, personal reasons, delusional perceptions about playing time, recruited over, relationships with assistant coaches leaving...

Harris took advantage of what Illinois could offer a player outside of playing by redshirting, knowing he would leave and then leaves another school.

Says one guys who played for three different teams in 4 years and another guys who’s about to be on his third team in three years? Yeah- thank you for the wisdom you two
Taking feedback from two disgruntled former players is definitely biased to one side. Plus everyone is different.

lol

As my freshman-year roommate remarked to me last year when I was teasing him about something he mocked me for in 1985: "One of my least favorite people in the world is my 19-year-old self." Ditto for me.
