If we're being honest there's only a couple different factors at play for the collegiate athletes.

1. Money
2. Playing time (which is a chance to increase value and earn more money both in college and professionally)
3. Playing scheme (which is a chance to increase value and earn more money both in college and professionally)
4. Relationships with staff (which could ensure more alignment with 2 and 3)

At the end of the day, all roads lead back to money whether it be present earnings or future earnings. It is interesting how no athlete ever highlights when a coaching staff has sold them on being allowed to develop a skill set that lends itself to the pros but that coaching staff uses them in the same manner as the previous staff/s.
Money is interesting. If money is relatively equal then I think you get into all of those variables. State income tax can give tax free states some advantage and I am sure they let their players know.

Unfortunately something few players care about is the quality of the education they receive

Agree, but I can't imagine a player similar to Sencire will fetch much more money going to another school. I think those that have a very high skillset (top 6ish on a team) follow your list
Senceire definitely fits this list and he's the greatest example of #4. He has to cash in as much as possible now bc he's not an NBA or even a high euro prospect. He needs to be at a program where the coaching staff values his specific skillset enough to provide more of 2 and 3 and thus rationalize giving him a higher amount of 1 than many other programs.

Not 1 player in the NCAA is worth more than 50k base pay. They also get a free ride for school btw and all the other free crap players get. They should however get bonuses based on stats for that year and certain goals that are obtained. Also, revenue sharing for the big tournaments and how long they last in them.

If the reports on Tre wanting a bigger/more featured role and Morez wanting to shoot more jump shots, here’s what I don’t get: Tre’s role at the professional level will be largely what he was here, an off ball cutter who can hit corner 3s. No one is going to pay him serious money to be an alpha scorer. Likewise with Morez. He’s like a Tschibwe type player. No one is going to pay him to shoot 3’s. And there were rumors Ben was unhappy with his role this year as well, but does he’s getting paid professionally to do anything other than spread the floor and shoot 3’s?

Think guys just need to be realistic about what their skill sets are.

Says one guys who played for three different teams in 4 years and another guys who’s about to be on his third team in three years? Yeah- thank you for the wisdom you two
Agreed, but also does not mean either of them were specifically referring to Illinois.

Certainly possible but could also be a general commentary on the NCAA today.

BTW, I just want to address - the foul DMs on this site to our insiders (or anybody for that matter) are totally unacceptable. Personally speaking, they are the reason I have anything to do with this board. They are the reason this board is what it is in terms of the engagement and value. Just because emotionally unstable individuals simply looking for ways to vent their frustration can't cope to disagree is no reasoning for that behavior.

I'd hope this gets taken care of to the best of possibilities and this type of behavior is avoidable in the future.

should go back to a 3 win team or a mid major if he wants to the the featured player on a team. all there camps are delusional

So... I leave for the weekend to enjoy one of my kid's athletic event and come back to: MJ gone, TW gone, TI likely gone, two insiders gone, Sarr likely to Duke, no change to Hamer's position, and talk of $2M to Dix if Sandefort likes Illinois too? Ugh, maybe I need to revert back to one of these so called "casual" fans that think everything is fine...in today's college basketball, especially with regard to Illinois, ignorance must certainly be bliss.

Recruiting Ayo and Johnson we had some inside Chicago connections. Do we have that anymore or is that something else we lost with Anderson's departure.

At the end of the day, these are just 18-23 year old dudes that are faced with some life changing money and hopes of extending their playing days.
All have people in their corners telling them “go be better” with best intentions. I’m sure any good coaching staff is telling kids to work hard, and you’ll play. Yes, some have a little more pressure to play due to dollars strapped to their name and “potential.” Don’t work? Don’t play?

As an educator, I know the lack of grit and perseverance most kids possess these days. It’s not an easy thing to coach, teach, or tap into. Just the way things are. 18-23 year olds are unpredictable, influenced by others, and look for the next form of instant gratification.

Do I hate losing guys we cheer for whole heartedly, yep.
Am I faced with the reality of this may be the new college ball, yep.
Thank you, insiders. We appreciate your nuggets of info. The good and bad.
You fuel this crazy fan base and yes, we are complete lunatics.
