I don’t feel like we are as active as we need to be in the portal …

I think there’s a better chance Dix winds up at Indiana with DeVries or back to Iowa than coming here … But they do really want him …

Sandfort doesn’t move the needle …

We really aren’t that involved with any big fish …

I’ve heard from a couple different people that Brad seems somewhat “checked out” …
Sounds like he is already out the door.

Right. Here was our team’s free throw percentages:

KJ: 84.5%
White: 82.4%
DGL: 80.6%
Boswell: 79%
Ivisic: 75%
Riley: 72.4%
Ben: 70.6%
Morez: 61.8%

So it’s safe to say that Morez was our worst shooter in our top 8 and there’s no way we should have pulled our best rebounder away from the basket to shoot mid-range jumpers or 3’s.

*Note: I still wish Morez was staying—only to play a Kofi like role, not an Ivisic like role.
Exactly and Coach BU told morez this while also confering with morez what he and his family were doing with a second NIL deal.

Moving on from Morez - I liked his game a lot and will root for him wherever he goes. I was one of the first ones on here to start calling for him to start given I thought that was our best lineup.

But once the family starts getting involved claiming “you are misusing my son” it usually doesn’t end well for the player. Morez was not misused, in fact he was put in such a position to succeed he got a 7 figure NIL offer from us and apparently a $1.8M NIL offer from somewhere else. Just say thank you to the coaches and move on- going on a media tour to complain about how the coaches didn’t see your son’s awesome shooting ability and they should have sacrificed team success for showcasing your sons outside shooting ability is crazy town and next year would have been tumultuous if he had stayed- we already heard some grumblings this year from the family in Dec

So there is no sense bemoaning his loss now given it wouldn’t have worked well if he stayed with a helicopter parent criticizing every move. Good luck to Morez but it can’t be here
The biggest issue is there appears to be a consistently fundamental mistrust between player and coach. Too many players come and gone to think anything else. Guys on the bench don’t think they have a path to being starters. Guys in role playing roles don’t think they have the path to being featured players. Healthy programs have players trust that coaches will put them in the best position to help the team but also to help themselves become the best version of themselves. At Illinois that is not the case. Nobody is saying it’s not a two-way street and players need to buy in in as well to make it work. Thing is though, they don’t have to. They can literally just leave.

Something I found interesting is that since 2022, every transfer that received a high-school rating that transferred here got assigned a lower transfer rating than their high-school rating, except for Marcus Domask. In other words, we are almost always the destination for transfers who are trending in the wrong direction before they come here. This is based on 247's ratings.

This applies to Mayer, Shannon, Dainja, Guerrier, Booth, Boswell, and White.
1 transfer ratings are complete BS.. But also, I'd expect that to be the case for almost all high major transfers. Prior to this year, which seems to be just an absolute wild west money grab, if a high rated high school player lived up to their value they more likely than not stayed put with the team that helped them develop/utilized their abilities.

If you’re referring to what I think you’re referring to …

I can’t comment on it …
Fully understand. I know nothing of the sort except something was supposed to happen last night at 6:30 and then today at 11? Really not even sure if it's with everyone, or maybe just Dra? Sounds like his mom was having another good time on X last night lol.

bingo.................i had to them when i fired someone and it was a waste of time and never had any value in my opinion.....usually got a little testy too.............
Sorry Pru I might have used the wrong word with "exit interview", too much a business term and maynot have been the best wording. I employed over 60 people in my company and certainly had to fire some, I would not refer to that as an exit interview, more one sided as in here's your final check now get out. But when someone quit, particularly if unexpected and especially if it was a high value employee, I wanted to know why from them, not from a direct supervisor. I didn't have many, but I did find out some interesting information. It was up to me to discern if it was bs or what was actually going on. But I wanted hear it directly from the employee. Glad I am done with all that. Chilling out in Florida for the winter enjoying some golf and a good amount of adult beverages. Rock on my friend!

I really hope we land Josh D because he is more than a 3pt shooter. He scores well on all 3 levels. His midrange game is very good. He also an over 3 to 1 assist turnover ratio from what I saw at 2.8 to .8. I hope we hear some positive news there.

Also any more news on Christoph Tilly the 7ft 2nd team all WCC? I watched some of his games and would be a good option at the that 5 we lacked last season.

then he can check himself out of the program and at whatever school will take him and let him ride off into the sunset... After how the season ended and losing Morez and Tre, Underwood should be chompin at the bit to rebound our roster

#444
If the reports on Tre wanting a bigger/more featured role and Morez wanting to shoot more jump shots, here’s what I don’t get: Tre’s role at the professional level will be largely what he was here, an off ball cutter who can hit corner 3s. No one is going to pay him serious money to be an alpha scorer. Likewise with Morez. He’s like a Tschibwe type player. No one is going to pay him to shoot 3’s. And there were rumors Ben was unhappy with his role this year as well, but does he’s getting paid professionally to do anything other than spread the floor and shoot 3’s?

Think guys just need to be realistic about what their skill sets are.
Unfortunately, these are young adults being misled by others with ulterior motive$$

One example OG’s couple of years in the league stats.
A lot of it tends to be sample size.

There are definitely some examples like Lee Humphries wasn't a great free throw shooter and was an elite shooter.

But free throw percentage tends to be a great indicator of shooting ability and a great predictor of future results.

Anouby's early career free throw attempts were only like 60 attempts per season. Hitting only a few free throws and he is a 70%+ free throw shooter.

I bet he’s checked out because Wil and KJ are coming back. So we don’t need much. Right ?
