From a pure cultural standpoint, sign me up. It would be the rare occurrence of a player sitting out a year for developmental purposes and sticking with the team (in the new portal world).
I have no clue on how much he has developed over the season, but it feels like a huge win to be able to keep him around. I liked his engagement from the bench (of what I could tell from tv) during games, so for me this could only be a positive.
The optics aren't necessarily bad either. I think the optics are that the average fan doesn't know sh@t about what's going on behind the scenes or in their (the players') heads. I haven't heard either of them say anything derogatory about Illinois. I'm sure they are unhappy about being recruited over, but that isn't a unique quality of the Illinois program. I do disgree with Buck and Dain's comment about it not being about money...it's the only things it's about. Whether that $ is immediate via NIL or future via playing time and exposure...it's about $. Period. Egos are just along for the ride.

I could see some actions where Ty initiates the offense and gets switched to a better matchup for some booty ball/post work. He's a good passer, just needs to get comfortable in that role. He's already been great in his spacing in the dunker role.

God forbid we bring back a player who started all 38 games on a top 10 ranked Big Ten Tournament champion that made the Elite Eight.
Big Z needs to toughen up, but the upside is there to be a very good player. Plus, you keep Tomi happy.
We would have two bigs in T and Z that can drill a three right in your face.
I'll say this, even if they add Z, expect them to add another big, likely a 4.

I was in the camp that if Ty left, then so be it. Offensively, he wasn't efficient, but I now realize that we need "Charlie Hustle" type players, and he fits the damn bill. I am sure Kelvin would love Ty.
