Big Z seems like a perfect guy to sub in for his brother, and for end of game offense/defense substitutions, since Z is a much better shot blocker.

It seems pretty ideal to me. I hope it happens.
I'm thinking if they look enough alike....Tomi plays until he's got 4 fouls...Brad takes him out, Tomi and Z change uni's....send Tomi back in...now that's the ultimate back up plan

If he is only at the 4, we are in trouble.
Did anybody to watch the Auburn/MSU game yesterday? We hear all this stuff about the Auburn offense. However, Auburn's bigs totally dominated the defensive basket and the defensive lane. To their credit MSU attacked the basket, but for the most part Auburn had the answer at the basket for 40 minutes. Auburn trots out multiple men for their bigs.

Yeah, I'm reading all these posts saying, "jump in the portal, you can always go back!" Ummmm, no way! Will the 'average' player, looking for $ but doesn't have the game, have his spot available. Zero guarantee of that in my opinion. I think once your spot opens up the school will look for a player elsewhere that has more potential than you may have displayed, yet cost about the same. They will gamble on the upside as opposed to what they know. This is the part of NIL that no one wants to talk about, all the kids/young men that end up with nowhere to go. Not only does it give them no team to play for, but it also takes away any chance of a solid and free education/degree to use in life. And if we are talking lower D1 or less, these kids may not have the funds to continue their education on there own.

If he was a 3 point shooter and could make 15 ft jumpers in high school than absolutely he should shoot them in college. I didn't know Division 1 basketball was where you go to learn to shoot.
Yea, think we are saying the same thing. It would take him a full 4 year college career to develop the player I describe. No major college would “experiment” like that with his obvious skill set already?

I agree. I am really liking Boswell, Ivisic (2) Dix, Riley with Ty and defensive 4 from the portal. Would need a good shooting 3 too.
The sun going down later at night, buds on the trees, Jim Nantz at Augusta, Loyalty posters saying they would be "happy" with their assumed lineup of hitting on every single top target that we can't afford together (and the insiders responding to this post saying we can afford it).

Signs of springtime ☺️

The optics aren't necessarily bad either. I think the optics are that the average fan doesn't know sh@t about what's going on behind the scenes or in their (the players') heads. I haven't heard either of them say anything derogatory about Illinois. I'm sure they are unhappy about being recruited over, but that isn't a unique quality of the Illinois program. I do disgree with Buck and Dain's comment about it not being about money...it's the only things it's about. Whether that $ is immediate via NIL or future via playing time and exposure...it's about $. Period. Egos are just along for the ride.
Exactly. Let me know when a guy leaves and takes less money to do it. No different than professionals saying it’s about fitting in, the coach, the town, my wife and kids or whatever. Then signs with the team that also happens to be the place with the highest offer.

3 point attempts per game:

Florida #55
Auburn #88
Duke #178
Houston #315

Just throwing that out there to keep in mind when we see who Illinois is after. If Brad gets some guys who aren't 3-pt shooters, it's not the end of the world.
A lot of that is determined by pace.

Houston and Duke play slowly. Duke actually shot a higher percentage of threes as a total of their shots than Illinois did.

mitigating circumstances for all of those.

No different than professionals saying it’s about fitting in (Everyone likes you better when you are rich), the coach (If you are making big bucks, coach has to play you), the town (You can have a heck of a lot more fun anywhere, when you are rich), my wife (Do I have to say it?) and kids (kids are expensive) or whatever. Then signs with the team that also happens to be the place with the highest offer.

Yeah I know. If it's and buts were candies and nuts we would all have a merry Christmas. Dix will be expensive, Big Z not as much. Riley could break the bank. Boswell and Ty already in the budget. Another 3 and 4 shouldn't be that difficult but may have to go slumming. If you don't have shooters at the 2 and 3 you are just pissing in the wind.

Money won't be an issue this offseason, the budget will be there. Z would be a great start. Biggest thing is to land a big time 2/3 in the portal and get pieces around them.

Hopefully land Sarr as well.

Our chances of Sarr going up, down or the same?

Regardless, I think we’ll make a better run next year.
