I think that its only $10 million. I read he has 5 years remaining on his deal, and his buyout is $2 million per year remaining (double if he leaves for another B10 school).I believe BU buyout is about $26 million. Is it different for a non BiG10 school?
Absolutely. Of all coaches, Porter Moser is probably the last one you'd use to argue that salary is a primary motivator. For goodness sakes he bought Tom Rickett's mansion while he was still at Loyola.Don't think $$ is primary factor for Porter, heard his family is very well off.He will probably stay in the midwest at a school of preference.
He bought a $2.5 million house on a $1.1 million salary. That sounds pretty run-of-the-mill to me.Absolutely. Of all coaches, Porter Moser is probably the last one you'd use to argue that salary is a primary motivator. For goodness sakes he bought Tom Rickett's mansion while he was still at Loyola.
Naperville's pretty nice too, I'd say.He bought a $2.5 million house on a $1.1 million salary. That sounds pretty run-of-the-mill to me.
He also took a massive raise when he went to Oklahoma, despite having a really nice house in Wilmette, which is an awesome place to live. Even wealthy people like money.
Moser at Oklahoma in the SEC is a way more difficult spot than Underwood at Illinois. And this is the kind of take you get when you have a myopic focus on a single elimination tournament to the exclusion of 90% of the season.
Porter Moser is 25-45 in the Big 12/SEC and has never finished in the top half of a P4 conference. He's shown no ability to win at a high major. In no world is his resume "pretty equal" to Underwood's.
Good for him. I didn't think Northwestern had the goods.
I’m not arguing with you , as Moser seems like a good guy and decent coach . not sure of his recruiting chops . but winning the B1G is pretty much as hard as winning the B12 or SEC .Moser at Oklahoma in the SEC is a way more difficult spot than Underwood at Illinois.
3/4 of that record is in the Big 12. In fact, he took over a program that had been to the tournament in all 3 prior non-Covid seasons, and 7 of the prior 8 non-Covid seasons (including 1 FF and 1 S16), and proceeded to miss the tournament three years straight (all with the Big 12). He has done worse than his predecessor, while I think we can all agree BU has done better than his.Moser at Oklahoma in the SEC is a way more difficult spot than Underwood at Illinois.
In a sea of disloyalty from all sides, it's nice to see a coaching relationship still function like this. I don't know if Northwestern will ever have a better coach.Good for him. I didn't think Northwestern had the goods.
Yeah I feel like he should've been the heir to the duke job but I don't think he would relinquish control to too many outside influences including coach emeritus. As annoying as Chris was as a Duke player he has proven to be a very good college basketball coach. I always thought of NW as the place coaches go to end their careers but Chris has taken them to Big dance multiple times and upset top teams like #1 Purdue and Elite 8 Illini during regular season.. His players play hard and they run a gimmick trap all the time defense that works. I wish our team always played that hard on defense.
I am surprised that a blue blood big dollar school did not notice have offer him the moon to move. I would be scared to see what Chris could do if he got some real talent but I don't think NW will ever by a $$NIL school.
Made me sad to see Kendall Gills kid sign LOI to NW. Hope he excels then enters the portal to play for the Flying Illini redux!
IMO, Collins would be a problem for the rest of the B1G if Northwestern ever lowers its admissions standards and elevates its NIL.Collins is fine, better than NW likely deserves. That said, no way should he be in the top half of B1G paid coaches.
You think theres 9 better coaches in the big ten?Good reminder that athletic leadership are bad negotiators. Collins is fine, better than NW likely deserves. That said, no way should he be in the top half of B1G paid coaches.
Sure- but that doesn't remotely put him in the category to be considered for the Illinois job anytime soon.I don't think he's doing too bad. He took over a program that had averaged 11-12 games a year the prior 3 seasons. He predictably had a rough first season with only 7 wins, but then doubled that in year 2 to 15 wins. And they are in the games. Played Drake within 6 and 10 in their 2 games. Lost in 2OT to Bradley. It will be interesting to see if he can take another step next season and get to 20 wins.
he won’t be for longGood reminder that athletic leadership are bad negotiators. Collins is fine, better than NW likely deserves. That said, no way should he be in the top half of B1G paid coaches.
