Sad Happy Hour GIF
It didn’t start well last year either and it turned out alright.

Looks like the wind was blowing the stink from Iowa west and he followed it.

Looking like another mid-tier big ten season coming. ya wanna buy in, but we just can't finish in recruiting. I said it earlier: you need to do your work early and then plug wholes. Can't miss out on all your guys to start, and then have desperation time when the market is dry and the prices are up. Didn't work last year, ended up with a fairly mid-tier team (very lucky actually that it wasn't worse and you had the international guys), not looking good this year again.

It just sucks that we lost again and waisted all that time when we could have maybe should have been focusing elsewhere.

Have we ever gotten our top guy(s) in the portal? Maybe TSJ, but honestly that was courtesy of scUM admissions.

If we miss on Sellers/Dix/Sarr that might be the most brutal collection of offseason failures.

Don't really want to "wait" for those big fish to enter the portal. It seems like the prices get even more inflated when you wait and teams get desperate.
i.e. Coleman hawkins getting $2M...

I didn't, not really. Dix seemed plausible to me. I just said we weren't getting all of Dix, Sellers and Sarr, which was far too obvious to gloat over.

We'll be fine.
That was surprisingly optimistic. Is everything okay?

(Just teasing you, btw ha)

Obviously a motivated fan base willing to contribute NIL funds, I imagine not having a football team to compete for donor money helps quite a bit as well.

But to your second point, Creighton has a little under 10,000 undergrad and post grad students every year, while U of I has over 55,000. So despite the passion of Bluejays fans, I see no reason Illinois should not be able to overwhelm their NIL amount.

Rumors had been that we were willing to match any NIL number presented by other schools, but I take @DB11Headband's comment about mom's getting what they want to mean that being so close to home was the tiebreaker for the Dix camp.

I don't follow Creighton, so I have no clue about their booster situation. But all it would take is one Warren Buffet to dwarf our NIL pool. number of students is far from a good indicator here

This does make me wonder, do we really have a top-10 NIL? I find it hard to square that claim with the way we are always missing out on our primary portal targets.
