One of the worst aspects of Turner hitting 3rd is that Tucker won't get a single pitch to hit if it continues. Tucker got himself out on a long at bat last night and not a single pitch was in the strike zone. You'll see more of that with pitchers knowing the guy on deck should be playing beer league softball.

Playing Turner and hitting him 3rd are different things. I think it's debatable whether Turner should be playing with Suzuki hurt. It's clear Turner is the 2nd worst hitter on this team behind Shaw at the moment though, so hitting him 3rd because people should slide into their usual lineup spots is really dumb. In fact, Ross doing that for 3 months that one year when Suzuki was hitting like a relief pitcher is why they missed the playoffs.

I don't blame Counsell for any of the bullpen mess though. Half of the relief pitchers on this team are just as likely to give up 7 runs in an inning as they are to pitch a scoreless frame. Which is why I didn't get why everyone was so optimistic in this thread. This bullpen is one of the worst in the league.
Shaw and Pearson sent down.

Without seeing the news I assume Keegan Thompson called back up? He had 11 K's in like 18 batters in the minors or something like that is what I saw

Edit: I was wrong, Little and Palencia back up for the bullpen. Little another guy that will have a 5+ ER inning because he can't control his pitches. Wonderful.

Kyle Tucker drops a pop up in Machado's at bat in foul territory.
Workman drops a pop up in Machado's at bat in foul territory.
Machado hits a HR.

Never seen that before. This team making humiliating history with their defense and their bullpen now.

Maybe turn the games off for a few days? I'm exhausted for you. 😄

Give him enough tries and he will do something positive eventually.
I obviously never played anywhere close to 162 games /year, More like 20 or 25. That being said, after puberty, in a game I never dropped a fly ball fair or foul. Look it into your glove.

Can we wait to complain about the Cubs team makeup and how the Cubs are playing until after we are 4 games under .500 rather than 12-8 against the best teams in the National League?
We were in first last April too. Conventional wisdom says having an unreliable bullpen will eventually catch up with us, as it has the last 2 years. This team hasn’t been relevant since 2017, I don’t think it’s wrong to be pessimistic.

Yeah, but at point the Cubs had not played (arguably) the two best teams in MLB (or at least two top 5 teams) 10 out of 20 games. This team is much, MUCH better than last year, and considering how much worse the NL Central is, they will be running away with the division by July. It's OK to be optimistic when such optimism is justified

Pitching has been less than stellar, but the offense is top 5 by any measure. (#1 in Runs per game) It's not like we've been feasting on bad pitching teams.

Being pessimistic isn't wrong, but it's a lot less fun.

I feel like there are two separate things

1. The 2025 Cubs, about whom there is increasing reason for optimism
2. The question of if the Ricketts family plans to rob Cubs fans blind for the next several decades

There is some intermingling of the two on the question of whether this team has enough pitching and how it might get more, but the big elephant in the room on that subject is the question of whether Kyle Tucker will be in Chicago for the long term.

That's the 500-million-dollar question, and a big reason why I'm trying to enjoy this season...

A mediocre team can win it all with a few elite starters and 1 or 2 elite relievers. I think my pessimism is based in the fact that this team is especially poorly constructed for a playoff run, even if they manage to make it.

They have 2 injuries that will make a difference, and it's early. Wait until the flu, mono, and ankle sprains hit. ;-)

Congratulations!! This earns you an honorary membership into 1950's Cub fandom! I'm actually a charter member.

In pessimistic cubs news, Seiya manages to kill almost every rally that gets to him. I'm sure he's a great guy, but he's held this team back so much with his inability to hit in big moments and even catch pop ups in big moments.

Just some notes here: Legitimate franchises don't roster Little, legitimate franchises don't put Little into a 3-2 game, legitimate franchises don't let him face a top 5 hitter in baseball with the bases loaded after walking 3 hitters in the inning already. That doesn't happen to legitimate franchises. It happens to the Pirates, the A's, and the Cubs. The odds might favor the Cubs to win this division, but smart money would be on the Brewers. This team was constructed by a low IQ moron who got to his job by riding Theo's coattails.

God bless Ernie Banks! I think He did. And I was blessed watching #14. Intense ball-player.
