If your brother is Jose and he lives in Houston, probably a better choice to steer clear of basketball.

Expecting Illinois to close down Andrej soon, the goal is an early week announcement next week. Number I have heard is around 2.8 million.
Okay. Let's pay Stojakovic the $2.8-3.0M. Then let's pay Kennard Davis the $1.0-1.2M. And then use the remaining money (out of $5.5M total?), or approximately $1.7M to $1.3M, to sign (A) Nick Dorn, Sophomore CG, Elon, and (B) Samage Teel, Senior PG, Indiana State. Those 4 players would fill out the Illini roster very nicely.

Crazy. Morez is a higher ranked transfer per 247 and on3 and he got about half of that. Michigan did right by moving early and quickly.

On3 transfer rankings had Jeremy Roach ranked well ahead of JT Toppin and PJ Haggerty last year. And Kanaan Carlyle ahead of Danny Wolf.

I’m not even anti-Morez. But if Yaxel goes to the league, let’s see how right they did.

So you are a loyal player, who early on agrees to the current market to stay with your team, only to realize if you had held out you could get twice as much.

And now you have to tell yourself you are okay with the new kid who is a starter just like you getting twice as much as you, just because he waited.

And we get to do this every year. Yeeeeee haa

is andrej better than dix?
If you are comparing their seasons last year Dix was clearly more efficient, but Andre in my opinion has more talent. He was a McD AA, he made a huge leap from his Fresh to Soph year, where was the primary scorer on a bad team

But you aren’t paying for what they did last year you are paying for what they will be next year- and that is where it’s exciting for Andrej, there is no doubt in my mind he’s a very good shooter - he took a lot of off the dribble threes and likely felt he had to create something last year. If he’s playing in a good team where he’s being utilized at all three levels gets open looks created for him and is more catch and shoot, he will be much more efficient

He offensive efficiency was very similar to KJ’s this year, both took a lot of step backs shot 32% from three, got to the line a decent amount and are good free throw shooters but not that efficient for the amount of shots they take. Now what if KJ was coming back next year- do you think he would be better offensively? No doubt. That’s what I see in Andrej, a kid who’s about to take another big leap in his offense and I just hope it’s here

Probably 3/4 (maybe more?) of college basketball teams would take Stoj over Morez at those "salaries", right? In my mind, Stoj has the star power that Morez lacks. And I loved Morez; he should be a study, especially his JR and SR year.

If we’re still competing for him with Duke, I’ll temper my expectations.
I hear you- but what gives me some hope in this case is he decided to go be the best guy on his team twice now, he could have gone to Duke out of HS and didn’t - does he really want to go play 4th fiddle on that team? He comes from a wealthy family, a million more is not going to be life changing for him, he’ll go to the best fit for him and it sounds like we prioritized him early and had a vision for how he fits- I can’t see him just going to the highest bidder like most kids

Crazy, if you’re one of the returning guys, aren’t you pissed?
Maybe our staff is operating with that in mind. I have no idea. But there is reason to think Underwood is pretty smart. (Which does not mean he doesn't do stuff that ... never mind.)

The super quick guards gave Ty some trouble but he's fine for the most part and has had another year of working with Fletch and developing.
And the biggest problem was Domask, TSJ, and Ty were the "guards" for us. Domask couldn't guard the quicker guards. TSJ could, BUT you'd prefer not to put your main offensive threat on the best/better guards (even though we had to at times.)

Ty should be matched up on mostly wings this year with Bam guarding the good guards.

It 100% does and we have had those exact problems in our locker in recent years

I doubt we see walk-ons again.
I think we will still see guys walk on, just because, BUT if I were a fringe guy, like say Latulip was, I'd go to a lower level to dominate, then get paid to move up a level.

But I do think you'll still see guys who are good at basketball, but don't really want to play lower level college basketball, and want to go to certain colleges, so they decide to be part of the team and walk on.

So, our coaching staff is going to spend nearly 3 million for a player with questionable offensive efficiency numbers and for whom I haven't been able to find a scouting report that doesn't bring up his issues on the defensive end of the floor? Yikes.
He graded out as a plus defender last year, and was almost top 10 in the ACC in blocks. Efficiency wasn't great at times, but he had to take a lot of tough shots on a bad team. He could really take off with better talent around him.

If he scores 16 a game on better efficiency then that's great and can still top offensive weapon. I expect tomi to be closer to 14-16 ppg range next year and kylan up to 12-13 ppg based on another year of progression.

The home run is you get andrej put up 18-20 ppg on better efficiency.... Then he's an all American level and all big ten dude

Do you mean like KJ or Will last year? I’m not being snarky, I’m just putting it in context of players we know and love. Everyone on here was willing to pay $4M for Riley to return. Will shot 32% from three and 43% overall and was not good defensively. Very similar to Andrej, but Andrej average 5 more ppg than Will, got to the line more and is a better free throw shooter. I actually think the argument is very similar - Will is worth that because we saw glimpses of what he can be and we would expect him to make a leap next year - we know Will is a good shooter and would expect him to get better. Both highly rated out of HS and are still both on an upward trajectory of what they will be as a player

Ian Jackson is getting $4M apparently and he didn’t start for a mediocre UNC team- it’s the upside people are buying

I really believe he puts up the 18-20 points a game. I would lead towards the lower end of that, but he can really score. He’ll benefit greatly from not having to do EVERYTHING for his team. He’ll be playing with a bunch of very good players. That takes pressure off everybody, not just Andrej.
