INSIDER THROW DOWN ON EASTER MONDAY
Evenly matched

Not getting Andrej would be especially embarrassing since apparently we are the ones that helped coax him into the portal.

It'd be like convincing your crush to leave the house and go hang out, but she goes out with someone else. We need to land this one so we can move onto our starting 2 and backup PG.

I know... this is why it's best to move early and quick. Does a player like Morez who obviously signed for well under market value in retrospect have any recourse? Can they go to U of M and ask for more or are they locked in?

Absolutely. It's what they did to Illinois. We had a deal in place (deal was signed, according to news we got) for a month prior to him transferring. Football, but Iamaleava did the same.

fwiw, I read the reason Z was benched at the end of the season at Ark was Calipari upset that instead of playing sound defense he was hunting for blocks.
This is very consistent from what I heard from my friends who are hogs fans. They were saying he got torched on interior defense but he can shoot it well

Since there is no pay-for-play, it's absolutely the wild West out there. There is nothing actually holding you. Obviously Iamaleava downgraded and it looks like TN will too, so it was a bit of a lose/lose.

I'm moving more in favor of them becoming employees so there can be a contract of some degree. NIL can still be paid, but once they are employed, there is a bit of sanity to the market.

I'm not a legal expert, so I'm sure it's vastly more complicated, but it seems like one of the few options to reign it all back in.

Aberdeen with a $2 million asking price with a career average of 5ppg and is a 40% shooting guard, but Morez asking for $2 million was considered extreme 3-4 weeks ago.
I think you might be leaving out a few key details!

Need a starting SF and backup PG with andrej.
This raises a question for me, even though there is a lot of position-less basketball in the college game nowadays. It would appear to me that you would have Andrej as the starting SG/2, and that Illinois would need to add a starting SF/3. (I agree.) But do you think that Andrej could also start at SF/3 and play effectively alongside another starting SG/2? I know that his "position" will be determined by the Illini staff. It's just that I find it interesting to discuss which position we think would be best for Andrej, and thus best for the team.

who are our targets other than/after andrej?
The only big names we’ve been connected with are Jamir Watkins- wants to go through the draft process may not really look for a home until after that in late May

Sarr- price has gotten out of the range we’re willing to pay

Duke likely gets Coward, someone will pay Haggerty $4M, Reid, Luis, CBM, Rice and Griffen will find homes, I’m still hoping for Jamir Watkins if the music stops and we’re the best fit with dollars left to spend and get him.

Barring us landing Watkins - I think we’ll get a good SG, like a Nick Dorn , who would be a great fit I think

Illinois using Zapp Brannigan's strategy- You see, Kentucky has a preset roster limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of transfers at them until they reached their limit and shut down.
Is that our plan for Duke too

It looks like the roster is almost complete if we end up getting andrej

This would mean he would be our primary scorer.
My big question is who is #2?

It will probably be Ivisic but that worries me a bit. I like him being able to distribute and pop out and shoot but if andrej is off or in foul trouble and we need a bucket we have to rely on Ivisic to go and get that?

Is the coaches mindset for that to be Kylan/Ivisic to handle that role. Or who is going to be that guy.

Ivisic is very capable but his biggest weakness offensively was creating his own shot with the ball in his hands.

I am hoping the other starter they get in the portal can be that scorer who we can trust to get us a bucket if Andrej has a bad game

They are going to add another guard along with hopefully Andrej, maybe two. I still think Tomi will average 18ish ppg next year, mentioned it last week but people are going to be shocked at how good the guy is going to be.

He was really, really good last year in his first ever year in the Big Ten. All the people writing him off as basically being the same player next season are (a) forgetting how good he actually was this season, and (b) ignoring that a guy like him should only continue to get better with experience.

He can surely re-enter the portal. Look at football, there are guys re-entering portal after 2 weeks of spring practice because they don't like what they see.

I like Nick Dorn also! He's listed as a CG on some sites, but I agree that SG is/would be his best position. Would you have Dorn as the starting SG next season? And have Andrej Stojakovic as the starting SF? Would Andrej be okay with playing that position? (Personally, I think those two would fit/play well together.)

Most sites list Kennard Davis Jr as a Guard, although 24/7 lists him as a Forward in their transfer portal list. I'm guessing that being an athletic 6'6' 215-pound player, Davis (like Andrej) could play either SG or SF.

And don't forget big Z either... or David Mirk
