Illini Golf 2024-2025

Playing in the morning which will give us better greens to work with. Trey with a nice finish yesterday which hopefully will carry over to today. JB needs to step it up. Let’s jump out on 10 this morning and turn the card around from yesterday’s not so hot back nine. Let’s drop a low score so we can get some separation between us and whoever is in 9th. Hopefully OU will fall back a few strokes as we are only 6 back but only 1 out if second. Let’s go Boys!!!! Throw darts and make birdies.
Trey leads us off with a birdie! 3 in a row for him nice hope he can have a nice round.
I'm looking for a refresher here. Top 15 after 3 rounds and the top 8 after four advance to match play?
Woah Mike has subbed Ethan in for Jake. And he bogies the first hole dang.
Bogeys 2 of the first3! ☹ It's a guessing game for that 5th spot. . Just can't have 2 guys play poorly like the frosh did yesterday.
Need max to bounce back not making many birdies.

Yeah Jake's collapse yesterday really hurt. The fact that Trey got in front of him at the end there was basically miraculous. Jake was having a really good day up until 12.
Mike small might have made the wrong choice to play Ethan but what do I know I’m not a HOF level coach. Ethan hasn’t had a good round in months. Jake has had plenty of them. I don’t get the decision but hard to criticize Small and at the end of the day no one but Jackson really is playing well.
18s supposed to be the easier hole to get some confidence heading to the front. Not good
The one strength Small’s teams have that they’re showing now is when they’re struggling and playing bad they generally do a good job of limiting the really bad rounds. Knock on wood no doubles or worse so far today…

We are unfortunately shooting ourselves out of this. Mike will have work his magic to turn this around.
As of this moment, the Illini are +7 on the day, worst round of any team. Yikes. Hope they can rally on the last several holes.

Don't worry, Purdue hasn't even teed off. Bottom 15 teams are just starting and the wind is picking up, you'll definitely get a few at +10 or worse.
I'm more surprised to see Ryan struggling. He played well last year and had a solid round yesterday, seems to be a good fit for this course. Hopefully he can bounce back strong tomorrow.
It won't end up that way (not even the case at the moment), but yeah - this is a shocking round for those expecting us to be competitive. The guys are suddenly looking down the barrel of an irrelevant finish. Gotta keep the wheels glued on and get a good night's rest...

I expect us to be 10th or 11th once the dust settles. The teams playing now represent the bottom half of the field, definitely no Auburns or ASUs. Work to do, but anything can happen with 36 more holes to go!
In the end Ethan shot a +3, which was a counting score. Also solid bounce-back day for Trey at +2. Need Ryan and Max to turn it up tomorrow.
