Look, I get the frustration, but when have wins and losses ever had anything to do with NBA draft status?

Usually they don't, but I do think Ayo's stock was hurt by March Madness.
I think Ayo's draft stock was hurt by his body of work shooting from the arc. What they underestimated was his ability to improve that shot enough that all the other great things he brings get a chance to impact the game too.
If his shot hadn't come around, he is a Dante Exum or Kris Dunn (I know Dunn got lots of PT for the Clips this year, but in the playoffs was unplayable) style deep bench guy. Luckily for the Bulls he put in the work to be much better than that.
His 3pt% in his last season in college was 39%. I don't think it's that his body of work was bad, I think it's more that NBA scouts were not confident it would translate. He had a funky, slow shooting motion, with a low release point. He worked on it in college but it was still kind of funky by the time he left for the draft. NBA teams are trying to project how something will work at the next level, and if there's something like weird mechanics that may or may not work (or may or may not be fixable) then that's going to be a knock against you. I don't think there was a lot of confidence that he would have the space in the NBA to effectively get that shot off, or that he would be able to make the necessary adjustments to his mechanics (and that's where he's proven them wrong).
All about the talent and being a great teammate goes a long way too.
Agree the % had climbed, but body of work I referred to was more towards your points. I think the shot form to a degree, but moreso volume and type of 3 point shots were where they missed on the evaluation.
