Long time lurker here, saw this post and had to make an account cause of how similar to my life that is.I was born in Quincy . Mom from Adams county and Dad from Pike county. been thru Camp point many times growing up coming from Quad cities area to Barry and Quincy to see relatives.
no.STL river side here... Anyone around here ready to connect the small world, and talk about how lame we sound about losing one recruit to lame Miss?
Art Eicken was my Ag Teacher when I was a freshman at Augusta High School. I did some legal work for a son regarding his marital problems. My Grandfather was the Allis Chalmers dealership, Eicken Implement Co, I’m a Grimmer and we still own the farm near Bowen.
Knew the Kestners from Kellerville also…
I graduated from Champaign in ‘90 and after traveling around a bit now live in Mt. Prospect near O’Hare.
Will have to catch up at a football game. Have season tickets and will have a nice tailgate most every week… enjoy the 4th and nice to meet you all!
I knew Bill but knew Ruth a lot longer. Her father was the minister that built the church in Clayton. My youngest brother was in the AGR frat at WIU and was their alumni advisor for years. WIU was too close to home, I went to Eastern.Last name is Lucie. My dad owned and operated a farm where he sold many boars around the Midwest. Bill Henning was a AGR fraternity brother of mine when I was at WIU. Got a MS in AG Econ at the University of Missouri then got a Law Degree at the University of Illinois. Practiced for many years in Macomb. Now live in New Canaan, CT down the street from my daughter and her family. I still own the farm at Augusta with my sister.
I NEVER expected us to stay in the top 15-18.Wow, i just checked our rankings and it's down 20 now in recruiting. We had huge momentum and we were in the top 15 for a long time and now it dropped to 20. It's just a weird feeling because we thought this would end up being one of the best recruiting classes ever and now it seems like we are going to end up around 25-30 by the time it's over with. Still very good, but a little sobering after we were riding such a huge wave for a while.
Looks like we are 34th in average rankings. Some ahead of us in average ranking are lower in total rankings due to having less commitments. Maybe they will come down if they got their big signees first and need to round out the class.Wow, i just checked our rankings and it's down to 20 now in recruiting. I was a charter member of AGR at WIU. Graduated with a degree in Ag Econ in 1965. Then to U of Missouri for a MS in Ag Econ and finally graduated from University of Illinois Law School in 1970. Then practiced Law in Macomb for almost 49 years. Was part of the original group that helped buy the present fraternity house. Dr. Loren Robinson was our original advisor and instrumental in the formation of the chapter and purchase of the house.I knew Bill but knew Ruth a lot longer. I actually sang for their wedding. I remember her father along with a couple of brothers were Lutheran Ministers and were the ones that married Bill and Ruth. Wedding lasted well over an hour. Bill now is a retired professor of the Beef Science Department at Penn State. He still lives in the area of State College. My wife and I visited he and his second wife several years ago and stayed with them. I believe he said he has a daughter who lives in or near Quincy. Bill took us to the place on campus that serves many different flavors of ice cream. Turns out Penn State has a department that specializes in developing different flavors of ice cream.I knew Bill but knew Ruth a lot longer. If you want to read about a history making small high school football, look up 1970 pittsfield high school . Its a treasure to read , so amazing !Since it's a slow time for recruiting news, I'm enjoying this focus on west central Illinois including Adams (home county), Pike and Hancock County. That area has produced a few athletes over the years including IL PGA Hall of Fame golfer D.A. Weibring , Illini lineman and QND football coach Jack Cornell, Illini and pro golfer Luke Guthrie, Illini guard Bruce Douglas, Iowa center Michael Payne and the Cubs pitching Reuschel brothers. Then there was Olympic volleyball player Caren Kemner, and Nicole Kramer, Olympic swimmer. I'm sure we can come up with a few others. More importantly, who are some of the upcoming athletes from Forgottonia that might be recruited by the Illini in the future? I understand there's a 15 yr old girl in Quincy who has some offers already. Who else? Any football players?
do y'all remember not so long ago when we were in on 1 single player in the top 1000 ? And that was it?Wow, i just checked our rankings and it's down to 20 now in recruiting.
