Counsell takes Horton out. Oh, boy here we go again, I thought. I was wrong. I guess manager knows or should know when a pitcher has lost some zip and is tiring. It worked out this time. And Dansby went with the pitch for rbi. Home runs are great, but situational basebell is more better. I really love bloop hits that score runs. What a beautiful thing is baseball.

Just saw Yankees traded their #20 prospect as well as an 18-year-old batting .400 in the Dominican League for Ames Rosario. Not familiar with either but reportedly the latter is the prize in this trade. Rosario is similar to Willi Castro who I’ve mentioned (super utility guy), though I think I might give edge to Castro as the better bat. Not sure about D.

Really hope Cubs can pick up one of these kinds of bench guys.

Last 8 games for Seiya:

2-28 with 10 strikeouts

Most of those strikeouts either taking pitches right down the middle or swinging at pitches 15 feet outside.

Just a humiliating baseball player.

Is Shaw for real? If not this season it looks great for the future.
I think he is. He's starting to pull the ball with authority. He wasn't catching up to fastballs. Not the case anymore. The Cubs did a nice job with the adjustments and Shaw did a great job implementing them.

His defense....he's got a gold glove potential.

Yet there seem to be some on here who don’t want to trade for SP — cuz, you know, it will cost prospects and we do have Taillon and Assad coming back at some point. 🙄
That’s correct. With Taillon and Assad coming back, we need to shore up the bullpen as they have hit a wall. We need to see what’s it would cost for Clase. I like the idea of Keller, Palencia and Clase closing the last three innings. Horton actually is pitching better with a higher velocity on his fast ball. If we can get a starter that has years left instead of a rental and it not costing several high prospects, I might be interested.

With Seth Lugo signing an extension with Kansas City, I'm going to shift my trade deadline hopes to the Cubs selling the farm for Mackenzie Gore from Washington.

Sounds like they'll have to come up with a package that blows Washington away. I read something yesterday that said Washington isn't going to trade him.

Yeah, I think we’re talking Caissie plus given progress Gore has made this year and I believe two more years of arbitration. If not him then very possibly 2 or 3 top 15 prospects. One thing that might be in Cubs favor is that looking at Nationals farm system, its strength seems to be pitching and a little lean on position players, especially OFs. If they aren’t sold on Robert Hassell III and/or Dylan Crews as being part of their OF of the future with Woods, might make it easier to make a deal. Still, I have my doubts they’ll trade him.

Well Clase is off the table. He was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through August 31st as part of MLB’s gambling investigation.

Yes, Horton had a good July. Still worried that he has already established a new career high in inning pitched. I just don’t know how much pas 125-130 they’ll let him go. He’s at 97.2 with previous high being 88.1. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they start Assad out in pen. Will be about 11 months since he last pitched in majors. I still want to see Cubs pick up a RP and at least one SP. we’ll see.

I think the MLB Trade Rumors site said that Washington was asking for Shaw among others.

Well that ain’t happening unless they want to include Brady House in the deal. But I think Cubs can put together a package that could get him even without Shaw. Just a matter of whether Cubs want to take an axe to their prospect list.

The Cubs just extended Jed which is a brilliant move. Now Jed can make get to work on improving the bullpen.

Shaw is not getting traded. Caissie is not being traded unless Jed believes he can get Tucker signed. Not going to lose both. I believe Jed will aggressive at the deadline.

Seiya hitting 3rd tonight.

Will Seiya spike himself while batting against Mis?

Yes - 350
No +300

Don't even think of trading Matt Shaw - a young hustler like Pete. I want those guys on my team. Desire, talent and speed.
