thank God there are only 3 bogus games now

hopefully , the season goes to 18 games and they drop another pre-season game off the schedule . two of them is plenty .
They're brutal games, but to the contrary, there are position battles to be won. These coaches need all of the tape they can get PLUS they need to get the primary guys reps. The players that do get cut, but had a great preseason, now have tape and they can get picked up because of it.

Depth on a football team is absolutely critical. A lack of it is a killer, which is why picking the best guys at the end of the roster requires a full look with every last piece of information gathered.

All of the above can't be done in two weeks, in two games. Those games aren't really meant for our viewing pleasure because I agree, it's not overly thrilling.

All that said, while I completely understand the need for the full slate of preseason games, there is absolutely no reason that the tickets should be regular season prices. That's the NFL though. It's an empire that prints money and they take full advantage of it.

they will be going to 18 games sooner than later , and a preseason game will be cut to do it . very little doubt about that

pretty sure that the players that deserve to be on an NFL roster , will be on one . word gets out in that league thru the old fashioned way .

60 years ago , the pros needed 4-5 weeks to get into shape after selling cars all off season . not the case today . they still need 5 weeks of camp , but I disagree that 3 games are needed to accurately determine rosters

Hard to believe but 60 years ago they played 6 pre-season games and 14 regular season games.

I think I saw Gale Sayers return a kickoff for a TD, called back, during exhibition at circular abomination Busch Stadium in late 60s. I myself preferred Sportsman's Park, old Busch Stadium on Grand Avenue.

I’ve been so discouraged by management (and busy) that i haven’t watched many games the last few years. How are we feeling this year? Should I get invested again??

There's a lot more positive vibes coming from the team this year with Ben Johnson as the new head coach. A lot of the players have commented about how there's a lot more accountability and seriousness from the coaching staff now.

I'd get back into being invested in the team if I were you. If for no other reason than that they seem to have competency among the coaching staff now.

Are the Bears this good, or is Buffalo this bad???
It's preseason and a lot of guys on both sides didn't play, but you have to like that their offense looks like it actually has structure for the first time in a decade. Williams footwork, progressions, timeliness and thought process look a LOT better. Heck, knowing enough to kill a play when it's a bust is a solid outcome.

I think that Loveland is going to be an absolute stud and combines with Kmet....Johnson is going to have a field day with that combination.

It doesn't mean anything, but I am nevertheless encouraged by what I saw from the Bears tonight. I still have them in the 7-9 win range this season, but I am hopeful this season will be a building block towards better things to come.

Forget score. Means nothing. Just from a visual standpoint. They could have lost 28-21 if Allen played and I'd be just as happy about the offensive execution.

Eh we beat up on them in 2024 preseason too, and we all know how that went.

I do think it's important for new HC's to take it seriously, go through the motions, see which guys fit the new schemes/culture, and establish good depth.

It still bugs me that during Eberflus's first year there was a clear challengable play and he just let it go. This is what the preseason is for. To prepare you for the season. Ben Johnson definitely had his team going through the game today for meaningful reps. The Bills obviously think they get more out of it in practice, as theyre pretty consistently meh in preseason games.

Different styles, doesn't mean one is better or worse.

Did you notice the total lack of effort from Buffalo on the Bears field goal? They just did nothing. Waved at it when it went by. Whatever their field goal defense is, they certainly didn't expose it.

Preseason isn't going to tell you much...is Williams going to have a season QB rating of 130 like he had last night?
Yes! OK, maybe not. I only watched the first half. I was very impressed with the execution, even of the second teamers. I think there were more plays with a receiver wide open in the first 30 minutes last night, than the whole year last year. Some could be due to the Bills crappy passing defense and second/third teamers, I choose to believe it was play design.

I think it's a mixture and will wait and see.
