Speculating about next season......

If the Cardinals continue with this runway reset next year I think it's very possible to see a last place finish in the division.....

The Pirates are building a dominating pitching staff and if they can improve their overall offensive production they will have a great chance to leave the Cardinals in their dust.....

I doubt Bloom will be allowed to make the moves necessary for us to be contenders for a divisional title let alone e a WS....

I got a bad feeling the Cardinals are in a position like the 90's with uninspired play and a lack of FO overall to improve the team chances to win especially considering the plummet in attendance this year..

It wouldn't surprise me to see the DeWitts selling the team instead of seeing this runway BS through to the end....

Not a good feeling of seeing another WS title in my lifetime

That depresses me big time....it really really does more than anyone knows......
The drop in attendance will be the excuse DeWitt uses to slash payroll and not field a competitive team.
I don't see them selling. The team is still a cash cow for them.

Exactly.

The DeWitts selling the team would be great but it's very unlikely. In a lot of ways, fielding an uncompetitive team is the easiest way to make money. Because of revenue sharing, if you cut salary enough you can guarantee yourself a profit even if attendance completely tanks.

I don’t know anything about the Blues situation from a few years ago, but they bring up interesting questions in this short clip. At this point I’d love to have the team sold. And when some old codger or really who ever buys it doesn’t leave it to their rich son who isn’t infatuated with owning a baseball team let a lot the STL F’n Cardinals.

It took 3 generations for the DeWitts to ruin the team.
Here's a thought, if there is a new owner could the team relocate? Nashville, Charlotte, San Antonio and Portland all have larger urban areas. All with 6-8% growth while St Lou has had a population decrease of -.3%
MLB has also been eyeing Salt Lake City but I can't see a team relocating there. It would have to be an expansion team.

Anything is possible with money involved, but I would be surprised if any new owner wanted to or was able to move a team with the kind of history the Cardinals have with their current city, as well as the local support they've historically had. Yes, attendance is down this season but we've seen what attendance is like when the team is even just kind of competitive, and you're talking top-5 in the league numbers. If you wanted to buy a team just to move them I imagine there are much cheaper franchises you could purchase, and that the league would rather see relocated.

I know. Just talking. We don't have a real team to talk about so there's this gibberish. Probably something you can find on the internet somewhere. Just looking for "clicks". ;)

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals savage a split of the 4 game series with the Buccos winning today 4-1.......................onto the Great American Smallpark as said by Chip Carey..........

Mikolas ........5 IP , 4 H , 1 ER ,1 W , 5 K's........
Leahy.......2 IP , 0 H , 0 ER , 2 W 4 K's...........Also gets the win................
O'Brien.....1 IP......
Romero......1 IP , 1 H...............

Nootbaar.......3-4....1 R............
Herrera.....1-4...1 RBI..............
Saggese..........2-3....1 R , 1 RBI.............
Walker.....1-3....1 HR....2 RBI.............

The way the offense has been going I guess you could call the 3 run inning as an explosion......................

after reading numerous articles on the Cardinals this morning these 2 facts stood out to me........................

  • Right-hander Andre Pallante is slated to remain on turn in the starting rotation, Marmol said. Pallante is listed as the Cardinals’ probable starter for Sunday’s series finale in Cincinnati.
  • Top prospect JJ Wetherholt produced a three-hit game Wednesday for Class AAA Memphis to raise his batting average in Class AAA to .336 over 33 games for the Redbirds. The multi-hit game was Wetherholt’s fourth multi-hit performance in his previous five games and his 32nd multi-hit game this season.

At one time I supported Pallante staying in the rotation for the rest of the season to see if he could figure it out. Meaningless season anyway. But he's at the point here of humiliating himself every time he goes out there. Might need to pull him just to save his sanity. The last outing was just awful. Guys were running up to the plate and couldn't wait to get in there and tee off.

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals win a road series and go for the sweep tomorrow after a tense 4-2 win tonight ..................

where to start ?...............

McGreevy goes to 6-2 with another quality start...6 IP ,5 H , 1 ER......
Romero....1 1/3 , 0 everything and a big DP to end the 7th,,,,,,,,
Leahy.....1 1/3 IP , 2 H , and gets his 1st save of the season..............
Cardinals recorded zero K's tonight..............

Nootbaar 2-5......
Contreras......1-4.......1 smashed tater , 1 RBI........
Pages ....1-3.....another smashed tater , 1 RBI.....
Church....1-3 , 2 RBI bases loaded single.......

I think one of the biggest FO mistakes of the season was keeping McGreevy on the Memphis shuttle while some veterans really really struggled all season long........Cardinals are 11-3 in games he's started this year.....................

LET'S GO CARDINALS.......................

Pallante and Liberatore are not starting pitchers.

Or the coaching staff has no clue on how to develop and sustain starters.

#1,017
I would agree on Pallante. Libby I think still can be a starting pitcher. You have to remember this is the first full season where he's had the opportunity to prepare as a starter for the entire season.

Walker showed some improvement when he initially changed his stance from the elevated left foot tip toe to a more grounded stance , but now he way to far away from the plate and returned to the one handed flail at breaking balls off the plate......he is also swinging at pitches IN the strike zone while falling backwards.......

hells bells I played 4 years of HS baseball and 7 yrs of Legion baseball and even back then we knew to hit through the ball and follow through the ball......there wasn't any of these one handed pose swings.....Charlie Lau taught that as a hitting coach then as a traveling instructor........JMHO......

not a very sunny day for Mr. Gray today............looks like his record will go to 12-8 if the score holds up......

With a no trade clause this thought is purely hypothetical , but next year he will make $ 35 M.......another over reach by MO and I wish the Cardinals could move him for some prospects and put that $ 35 M to better use..........

this season has somewhat disappointing to me with little expectations overall but solid play earlier in the season raised some false hope as far as in contention for the post season...........JMHO......

Well this quote doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy. I have faith in JW. He has undeniable raw talent, but some want to be great and some are just happy to be there. I think Kobe had a quote about greatness that applies.
thanks for posting this , bro..............It seems to have some merit to the thought that he's not preparing properly and the league is taking advantage of it............the league knows his weakness for outside breaking balls and are using that knowledge to the nth degree on JW........he is not adapting to the " book " that MLB has built on him..........

What concerns me is that his best year in MLB is his rookie year and the following years have been underwhelming , to say the least...

Add on injuries and the Memphis shuttle and here we are at a crossroads........Is he willing to do more , such as the hitting coach stated , or is he happy with his level of play ?.........being only 23 , I bet he gets a few more years to figure it out before a decision is made regarding where he plays........my worst concern is that he is moved and turns into the feared batter everyone expected him to be by now......it really really is.....................

Gorman with a web gem earlier.................ranging far to his right he snagged a ground ball and jumped and threw a one hop strike to 1st base....great to see after some of his troubles at 3rd recently....................

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!

In a tensely played game , the Cardinals rally on a 2 run 414 foot smashed tater by Ivan Herrera to snatch a 2-1 victory over the A's ..

Mikolas with a quality start..........6 IP , 5 H , 1 ER.............
Svanson with 2 excellent IP , 1 W , 2 K's.....
Romero closed it out in style with 1 IP , 1 K .................

The Cardinals made the most out of 5 hits tonight.........

Nootbaar....1-4...
Herrera,,,1-3 , 1 HR , 2 RBI's...........
VS III....1-2....1 W....1 R ....
Church,,,,2-2.........got picked off 1st base to kill a rally early................

Reds lost so the hunt is still on for a WC ......Doubt it happens but youneverknow ...............................

LET'S GO CARDINALS.............

The Cardinal outfield as a whole lacks production. Lars Noortbar with 44 RBI's so far is finally on pace to crack 50 RBI's for the first time in his career. I know all the stat geeks love the guy, but his bat lacks pop in my view. And with Walker and Victor Scott siitting on 30 plus RBI's through 160 games or so, the outfield production is sub-standard.
