Cubs 4 games up on SD in wildcard 1 race.
I know right after I say that, the Cubs win 2 and Padres drop 2 to what were seemingly the flailing Reds. Baseball is funny.

The Padres do have 7 of their last 16 games against the Rockies and White Sox so I wouldn't be counting chickens just yet. I am hopeful we can win 10 or so and put it away down the stretch here.

Hopefully, the Brewers haven't clinched the division by the time they play the Padres in the 2nd to last series. I actually think the Rockies and White Sox will be trying harder than a team that was just recently eliminated.

The White Sox are playing better so I d not think they bill be a pushover. We just need to take care of business and keep winning series’s. We go 10-6, the Padres will need to win 15-1. Our schedule looks like we will get 10 wins easily.

IF my crude math is correct, the Cubs have a magic number of 13 for the top wildcard spot. 16 games remaining on the schedule for the Cubs.

The Padres would most likely win the tiebreaker with the Cubs as they went 3-3 head to head but they have a better record in their division.
Either way, if the Cubs DID go 10-6 I don't believe the Padres would go 13-3....or 9-7 and 12-4.

The only way that the tie breakers rules take place is that the teams are tied after the regular season. I do not expect the Cubs to be tied with anyone as they will hold on to the 1st wild card team.

if the cubs finish with a better record than a divisional champion would they have home field advantage?

Per a Twitter post by Bruce Levine:

Cubs Wild Card playoff picture. If tied with Dodgers for same record ,Cubs have tie breaker( 4-3 head to head) Cubs / Padres 3-3 in regular season .next tie breaker is intra div play record. Padres have slight percentage lead today. Cubs / Brewers division champ tie, 7-6 Cubs

Magic numbers for the playoffs is 6, for the top WC spot is 11. SD is now 5 games back in the loss column and the Giants are 9 games back. We are getting closer to locking up no worse than the top WC spot. Milwaukee’s MN is 10 over the Cubs. The Padres or Dodgers will end up being the 2nd WC spot as the other will win the division. The Mets are in a nose dive right now as the Giants, Reds D’backs and Cardinals are realistically the only teams that could overtake them. But the Cards laid an egg last night in Milwaukee so I doubt they will come oily of their tailspin losing 4 straight. So looking ahead, the three starters I would use in the best out of three WC series is Horton, Imanaga and Boyd, unless Taillon gets hot down the stretch. I do like the idea of going righty, lefty, righty so I would hold Horton back until game 3 if neede as it we cans win in two, he can start the series against Milwaukee. Lots of options for CC to think about. It will be interesting which pitchers will; fill the playoff roster. 4 starters with Hodge, Kittridge, Theilbar, Keller, Rogers, Brown, Pomeranz, and either Civale or Palencia depending on health.

We wouldn't need 4 starters in the Best of 3 Wild Card round unless you think one would be a long reliever. If they win, the next round is a different story

I would think Boyd/Taillon could be a long reliever if we need one is my point. Horton and Shota are locks. I a torn on who I would start in game 1. SD does not hit lefties as well as they hit righties. It’s a 10 point difference in average, 253 to 243 R-L and their power is negated against lefties as they have hit 93 homers against righties and only 37 against lefties. So we could go Boyd Shota in the first 2 games or throw Horton in Game 1 and Shota game 2 with Boyd in game 3 if necessary. Lots of options.

I know I'll get pushback but I've got to say it.
PCA 0-4 with 2 K's and 0-2 w/RISP.
Misjudged a fly ball which became a triple that eventually scored.
Ran into Caissie on a ball Caissie was calling him off of, getting him hurt.
Another terrible game which is a reoccurring theme in the 2nd half.
I hope all the HR's in the first half didn't mess up his swing. He needs to put the ball in play to take advantage of his speed...the one thing that doesn't slump.
