Did you ask this before game 4 against Cleveland in 2016?

Edit: It seems this point has reached redundancy. :)
You and Grandpa aren't comparing this team to the 2016 team, are you?

I don’t know how Cubs are going to win game 4 (that’s right, Cubs are winning game 3), but if they do I start Rea in game 5.
Taillon is our best starter right now with Horton on the shelf. He will have 5 days rest so he should be ready. Game 4 will have Boyd on 4 days rest then I would have no choice but to start Rea game 5. But it’s all hands on deck as Brown could get a couple if needed. If JT can get to 6 innings tomorrow with the lead, then we could use him for an inning in game 5 if needed. It’s not over yet

I wonder if Shota has some type of nagging injury thing going on. Velocity is down, if you throw an 88-91 mph fastball in a bad location to mlb hitters it’s going to fly out of the yard. This season didn’t resemble 2024 at all.

Based on what?
Based upon Shota having an 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings of playoff ball with a WHIP of 1.50 and 3 surrendered HRs versus Rea having an ERA of 0.00 and WHIP of 1.40 in 5 innings. Add in Rea having a 2.63 ERA in Sept with a WHIP of 0.92 WHIP while Shota had a 6.51 ERA with WHIP of 1.26 and 10 HRs given up in those 5 games.

Yes, Shota was better against Brewers during regulation season, but not exactly dominating. If you have to use Rea in relief to win game 3 and 4, then obviously you do it. But otherwise go with the “hot” pitcher.

Of course not. This team doesn't have a frontline SP like Arrieta, Hendricks, or Lester.

Essentially trying to channel the classic Yogi Berra-ism, "It's not over 'til it's over," which is true, regardless of the team on the field.
Fair enough. Was going to say that this team doesn't have a "stopper" starting pitcher so I don't anticipate a full comeback but I can see them winning Wednesday.

Rea should have started game 1. Shota has been great, but he is toast right now.

It appears all of the weaknesses we've identified over the course of the season have decided to show up in Milwaukee. (Other than the Suzuki narrative) As soon as Steele went down, it was clear we would not have enough pitching, and guess what? We don't. The timing of the Horton injury is classic Cubs.

You have to score more than 3 runs a game to win this time of year, and we can't... so at least we can't blame it all on the pitching.

Pretty fun season all in all, but we are writing a whimper of an ending... It's going to take some magic to rebound from the lashing we took in Milwaukee to this point.

I woke up in the Middle of the night, and thought Milwaukee might have hit another bomb. I had to tell myself to relax... They can't hurt you any more... at least not today.

Brewers went 6-0 against them in the regular season.
I hate both teams.
So the Dodgers are due then and they're obviously getting hot at the right time. We won the season series against the Brewers, look how much that's meant now...🫤

My mistake. The correct number is 13.
Yes, only Happ was on the roster. But who are the other common threads? HOYER and RICKETTS !!!!!!
If I’m not mistaken, those two are also common threads to the only WS championship in our lifetimes too. Just as that team has nothing to do this team’s performance nor does the 2020 or 2017.

Now if you’re really looking for a culprit to blame, it should be the new baby blue uniforms. You do realize the Cubs have never won a World Series title when baby blue uniforms have been a regular part of the rotation. 😴

I guess they are still on a 9 year honeymoon period. Great job at the deadline guys ! Can't wait until 2032.
I guarantee Ricketts considers this year to be wildly successful: Stayed under the salary cap and got 4 playoff games at home. (Emphasis on staying under the salary cap)
