if pete gets fired by the raiders, Penn st should look into him. Pete can easily figure out how to get personnel, and will work non stop as long as he keeps taking his adderall and chewing his gum

It would only be for 3-5 years, but he could win immediately. they’ve been wanting to win for a while

Penn State has financial issues as they trim down their budget. They also invested a ton of money for renovations to Beaver Stadium. This will be interesting to see what kinda Dime they have for a new coach.
it’s all about getting this termination buyout & hiring of new guy funded by new donations . They would not have fired him (at whatever negotiated discount Franklin agreed to ) without significant promises from boosters to pay for it .

this stuff is not done without that .

maybe , but doubt he is the first 5 of the shortlist .

Thery really need a proven winner, not a long term program builder in this day and age
A lot of people make that arguement, and I do think it’s valid however should not be a limiting factor. Every successful coach was unproven at some point. Often times head coaches with lower level success for one or two seasons was really off the back of someone else, or signs are there it won’t translate to power 2 but are ignored, and a lot of the ‘proven’ guys flop. A good AD should know if a coach has potential snd will be a good fit within the overall culture of the university. If there is a good assistant with the right personality (read: right relationships), then I don’t think they should be immediately discounted from a major position

if IU doesn’t announce a massive extension and raise for Cig this week, you have to assume it’s because he turned it down and it’s game on from there
if he’s looking for a payday to make up for all the years toiling as an asst , or hc at a lower level program , he would be a fool to not find out his market value and wait awhile yet

ATM has top 5 NIL in college football? Why leave and rebuild? You see what happened to the last guy for winning 10 games a year. This hire isn't as attractive as people make it out to be.

I mean...Elko is based out of Texas, a talent-factory of a state. With deep oil and defense contractor pockets.

I don't see Mike a serious candidate.

Elko is from NJ and coached most of his career on the east coast. ATM has a ton of money but in my opinion it would be harder to win there.

Talent coming in would be tough. Most of the top 26 recruits, if not all, will have committed somewhere by the time the playoffs roll around.

No shot they announce Cig before the season is over.

Though with PSU returners and transfers from Indiana, ALONE...dangerous team.

Hit on a few transfers on top of that and OSU could meet it's match.
Can PSU afford to wait out the CFP to announce Cignetti in January? Hard to build a staff and complete for talent in the early signing period or transfer portal window in that scenario.

Meanwhile, Matt Rhule and the PSU AD are real tight from working together at Temple.

What you said makes total sense and it's clear why a team would be at a disadvantage for waiting.

Also, has a head coach taken a job while still playing for the college football playoffs/championship?

Maryland basketball right before March Madness was the most similar comp I could remember. Which is why I don't see it.

if they can really get Cignetti , can they afford not to ?

No doubt penn state has talent and will always have talent. I’m just saying it helped him a lot to bring his entire staff from JMU and the players.

I don’t really get this “he just brought his JMU team recruits over to IU”. With that logic, he was able to recruit/develop CFP level talent at James F’ing Madison. Give him a program like PSU? I know at least 17 programs that should be VERY worried.

Yeah he was able to do that but I don’t think he will have the luxury of bringing 2 all Americans with him again

Don’t think he can bring all Americans to a top tier big ten program with one of the strongest alumni support (look a their endowment) in the big ten (ie NIL). When he was able to do that at James Madison? I’ll take the other side of that bet any day
