He technically can go recruit if he wants to or Brad wants him to …

We don’t need him to recruit right now … That’s why O and Geoff get the big bucks … Tyler handles offense … Cam handles defense … Kruger helps Brad get ahead on scouting and whatever else may be needed …

Coaching is draining on a young family as well … Kruger is spending a lot of time with his wife and family this year … Part of the reason he chose to come to Illinois was for a reset …
That last part was my guess too. I'm thinking both sides know this isn't (planned to be) a long-term situation, so Kruger respectfully isn't taking an assistant coach position just to leave in the next year or two. He just got fired too late to be in the mix for a lot of jobs.

I’d wager that Brad doesn’t see the upside in having Kruger recruit. Kevin will probably be looking for another HC position in the offseason. His results at UNLV weren’t great, but they weren’t a doormat either. Could definitely see him get offers at a MM.

Why have him work to develop relationships with players he may never coach?

And Hamer is sitting in the corner with his leggings on.

Indy et al, do you think the Illini will be recruiting eligible players from the G-League?

surprising there's not more traffic on Petrovic being cleared with 3 yrs of eligibility..............I think it's great news after a terrible weekend of Illini losses that caused me sleepless time periods and increased medication activity............

we need to hail all good news on all Illini programs as the doomer's will run with all negative news till they drop.......that's the history of this crowd of lunatics that frequent this board as is the lunacy of the crowd that promotes optimism and good will......

we are so driven by results that sometimes we can't appreciate when excellent news comes our way.......maybe I beat the optimism drum to loudly but that frame of mind is what keeps me grounded.....it would be way too easy for me to be an author of the sky is falling multiverse but I actually did live that life for many years through the dark days of 60 + point losses in FB.......The still embarrassing stint of Fahey in WBB and the mediocre to below average BB results after the special 2005-06 season.....

I , as many here , have lived through so many disappointing seasons that started off so promising and later turned upside down by injuries etc etc left us wanting more.......the FB season is 2/3 's over with the hope of a strong finish and a prime time bowl invitation......the dream of a CFP invite is up in smoke , but I'll still watch and cheer for the Illini as I always have......

but now we have MBB and WBB coming to the season openers , so to me hope springs eternal.......I can't conceive of any other course of action for my fandom to follow......

I guess I really really am a........................

There honestly aren't that many that are even eligible. The requirements are that 1) you can't have gone through the draft process, 2) you can't have signed an NBA contract, and 3) you have to be within 5 years of your high school graduation.

The vast majority of G-League players have been through the draft process, and are therefore not eligible.

Other than the two we've heard about, Thierry Darlan and London Johnson, the only other guy I've seen mentioned as eligible under these rules is Abdullah Ahmed, whose G-League numbers don't exactly jump off the page.

I think this whole G-League thing is going to be seen as much ado about nothing in the not too distant future.

Thanks for your post. Looked like a cluster of more mess! You are right… not much to it and not many players in the mix!

Credit where it’s due to Brad and staff …
Constanza price got out of control … Pivot … Cam Holmes wants to stay out West … Pivot … Jervis was playing games about asking price … Pivot … Adam wants to stay east coast and honestly didn’t give off good vibes on his visit … Pivot …
And we land a top 50 kid who IMO, may be the best fit of all of them for our team and culture …

That’s how it’s freaking done …
So much better than Weber and Groce days where we put all our eggs in one basket and had to take 1 star players as consolation prize when we finished 2nd on the 5 star. Brad is not perfect but he knows how to recruit in the transfer portal $NIL age.

Genuine question with all this mess going on - what is stopping us from bringing Kofi back for another year?
I know crazier things have happened, but I think declaring for the draft the second time prevents you from coming back.

Illinois will not be the choice. The NIL will be outrageous and Illinois won't pay that kind of money. Hell, Illinois lost Constanza for the same reason and he call Antigua his uncle.

agree. FWLIW, setting pay ceilings for all prospects and adhering to them should be the default. I think it is, by and large, with our staff. It helps a ton that we're adept at pivoting
