For the folks who want Tony White, how do you square that with how his defense has performed this year? I was a big fan going into this season but he chose Florida State when his job was not at risk and they've been just as bad as Illinois' defense since ACC play started.

He wouldn’t be my first choice but he’s a very good DC …

At the time, the move was viewed very positively. Our 2022 secondary play was truly elite, and AHen deservedly got a lot of credit for it. As it turns out, it was a bad decision. It happens; time to move on

Back then he coached the corners. Maybe he should’ve continued to do that and brought in someone else to coach the safeties. Obviously the Fenelus hire was brutal.

Yeah but he has an entire team to worry about not just 1 side of the ball. Obviously he hasn’t helped with in game coaching. Before we had Buh and Kane. Also Jimmy Leonhard helped during the week.

Maybe we go back to seeing more sub packages
Sure but he certainly knew Henry had never been a DC. He knew Lunney was experienced and he didn't need to spend nearly the time there.

I don’t think Bielma would have hired Henry as DC had Bielema's career path been as an OC.

It was (or should have been) set up from day 1 to bring Henry along under Bielema's guidance. Here we are on year 3.

Not sure if true but it's been said White was looking to become a HC very soon.

So Rhule brought in another potential DC. Then White left, for whatever reason.

White saw that Nebraska’s defense lost a lot of starters and was going to struggle, plus the offense was going to take a step forward and press opponents to score more. He saw a great opportunity to jump to a new team with a talent advantage every week. It was still a risk because Norvell was on the hot seat. That said, White will get another job whenever he wants.

I’m interested in if defensive minded head coaches who are likely to be fired.

For example, is Aranda still a good defensive coach? It hasn’t been great this year.

What happened to his SC team? They’ve totally imploded.
Have you seen his behavior?

Henry has not been stellar so I'm not on here to defend him. We don't have dudes on D. X and Gabe are about it and one of them is hurt and the other can be doubled into invisible because we don't have any other dudes. Get more dudes.

Yeah...absolutely get more dudes for sure!

But we can't get average defense out of these guys?? Average B1G..not even nationally. We are dead last in the B1G. Allowing 40 friggin' ppg?
Come on.

If you can't get just middle of the pack defense with this group, it is 100% scheme, planning, play calling, and coaching.

We just saw how serious Indinia is about football. We'll see this offseason how serious Illinois is about football....because if BB and JW don't go out and throw "offer he can't refuse" at the very best DC('s) available...we are not as serious about football....as Indinia.

Let that last little tidbit sit in your Illinois sports crawl for a hot minute.

Oh yea....AH shoulda been gone 3 years ago.......We got the offense, now go fulll gaga for a bluebood DC !!!

Who is in charge of getting dudes? College coaching requires both coaching and recruiting. Henry not getting either done, requiring a change.
