I honestly would be shocked in Brian Kelly coaches again at a P4 school. He's 63/64, has a whole lot of stink on him from how he handled his biz at LSU and he may be headed into a prolonged serious legal battle w/ Louisiana.

On his run thru GVSU, CMU and Cincy, he was known as an offensive innovator and program builder. At ND he definitely stabilized that program, but was super lazy on the recruiting trail. And he flamed out massively at LSU. What does he really bring to a program, these days?

AD's are looking for the next Cignetti. BK ain't it.

I’d expect Beamer is thru after today’s collapse. Just fire him tomorrow.

It was an epic collapse but he's not getting fired. They would be pretty far down the pecking order in the marketplace plus his buyout is around $27 million. The question is whether Beamer would want the VaTech job and whether South Carolina would willingly let him walk with the buyout zero'd out.

Whether it matters, the 2026 South Carolina schedule is hellacious. The annual game against (@)Clemson, plus @Bama, @Florida, @Oklahoma, Georgia, TAMU, and Tennessee. If it's me, I'm bringing Beamer back and not saddling a new coach with a likely non-bowl season in year 1 knowing I'm a bottom-tier SEC football program.

Yep. And if I’m Beamer, I’d bolt to Va Tech. He gets several more years before he gets fired instead of just one more if he stays at SC.

Why are so many of us obsessed with Fitz? Would you want him to be the coach of Illini? I honestly do not get the fascination of Illini fans with him. Please enlighten me.

Kiffin extension and asking price not sitting well with Ole Miss …

I think he’s more than likely going to be on the move unless things drastically change …

Lane is unpredictable though so who knows what’s coming next …

No one tells him what to do in Oxford … Other places, that’s not the case … I don’t think Lane would like that … At all …

Multiple people continue to tell me Franklin to Va Tech is done … FSU was back channeling but they’re trying to pay less buyout and jacking around with all that … Franklin would be smart to say heck with it and take the Va Tech job and get cooking IMO …

Chesney or Smith at UCLA … UCLA thinks Chesney is the next Cignetti …

How many absolutely mediocre hires will be made this cycle under the auspices of finding the 'next' Cignetti?

He’s been in talks with Arkansas … Bret has told him be careful with that one …

If Michigan State opens and it’s not Kelly, he’d be a name for that job …

Feel like Wisconsin is going to regret holding on to Fickell if Fitzy ends up at MSU... Any chance he goes to Iowa as HC in waiting?

Wiscy , MSU & iowa

So many, and this seems like the most obvious one to me. Not that I think Chesney is a bad coach or anything, but how much of this "next Cignetti" thing with him is primarily based on him being successful at the same program Cignetti was successful at? The odds of there even being a "next Cignetti" available to be found are probably less than 50/50 (Who was the "last Cignetti" before Cignetti? They don't grow on trees). I have to imagine the odds of the same school churning out two Cignettis in a row are pretty low. There is a real possibility that Chesney has done a good job harnessing what Cignetti built at JMU, and that it may not necessarily translate into building a winner at a down-on-its-luck P4 program.

Still don't understand the Fitzy love. People act like winning at Northwestern is impossible and because he had some good seasons he's some kind of savant. But the thing is Braun, who had zero HC experience when he took over that job, has them playing better now than they did in the last few years of Fitz's tenure. Maybe Wisconsin should kick the tires on him? More upside than Fitz, I think, who very clearly was on a sharp downward trajectory when his tenure at ended at Northwestern.

A name to keep an eye on...Tommy Rees.

Currently the Browns OC (although under heavy influence by Stefanski), he was at ND and Alabama. Bright football mind, played QB at ND and his dad was an NFL scout.

Definitely will be a head coach at some point, just a matter of whether at NFL or college level. Saban thinks very highly of him.

Have seen his name out there, for some of the college openings, namely UCLA. Not sure if that's the best fit, but we'll see.
