Won’t take the Ben slander… Sure he missed some shots… He also made some big ones late… He’s busting his balls out there, playing out of position at times because dudes aren’t healthy and has been a great leader in game huddling guys up and communicating calls from sideline. He has shown improvement on the defensive end and rebounding 100%. He’s a role player and I think he’s doing a solid job right now.

I know a lot of people won't want to see Wagler coming off the bench but if Brad starts Boswell and Petrovic what a two headed monster that would be.

DM didn’t rebound nearly as well tonight. He had a lot of times 1 hand on the ball and couldn’t pull them in. We were not strong with the rebounding tonight need to work on finishing off rebounds and not getting moved off your spot.

He got as many rebounds as the twins combined.

We got out hustled. Bama had already been punched in the mouth. We had not. Sometimes you have to lose to learn what it takes to win. Lick your wounds, watch the tape, and take it out on the next team.
Got to have the guts to make shots in big boy arenas if you want to make noise in March. Bam and Stoj were up for it. Our youngsters were a little sped up.
Lots of ball left.

Glass half empty: could’ve won that game a million ways and arguably pissed it away

Glass half full: first time we’ve seen this team fully healthy, and there are clearly going to be growing pains to reach our full potential — offensive flow, defensive communication, etc. I actually thought we got pretty much whatever we wanted on the offensive end and played like the tougher team. Sometimes shots don’t go in (free throws too…) and you don’t win these ball games. Glad we got the Texas Tech one. It’s a looooooong season.
this team is not. Lee is still out and Mihalio, both Ivisic are not fully healthy. Just because all of the key players played doesn't mean they are fully healthy.

I almost wish Tomi hadn’t come back for this one- not that he was horrible but he wasn’t himself, committed a couple of silly fouls and it seemed to throw our chemisty off. Let’s get the old Tomi back and start cooking again- we had zero offensive flow in the second half - it was mostly 1-1 plays

I agree with that. But to win in March you're going to have to find a way to get some stops. And we didn't all night. I'm not saying play zone the whole game. When they are getting it to the lane, switch to it for a possession here and there to get a rim protector in the lane instead of having him drug out to the perimeter.

Most importantly for me though, we lacked toughness and wilted when they got physical. That has been our achilles heel since TJ left. We have to find a way to get at least some of that back.

I struggle with the "toughness" stuff. Not because of you, just because I hear it all the time. Between "toughness" and "adjustments", I wonder how many more times I can hear it LOL.

And this is NO TJ slander, he's my all time favorite Illini. But if defense is a metric for toughness, that Illinois team was one of the worst defensively in the underwood era - and I know those dudes were tough.

Tomi 3 points Z 3 point bad bad Ben!! Fire Tyler!! Brad got out coached!! Lol we got gassed because we tried to run with them when your gassed you cant make free throws... I thought the because most absolutely awesome thing is the team stayed together and kept trying to win!!!!

Really. He played great defense with 2 blks, 6 boards, made 3 of 8 from 3. He is not a top player on the team but he is contributing. I just don't understand the hate for this guy.
He is averaging 10.8 pts, 5.3 rbs, 0.5 blks, 1.3 assists, and 0.0 TO in 22.8 mins/game. That is pretty much what you want from the 6th man.
8! 3s from your 7th? man is pretty much it.

The majority of his looks are lightly contested (some early in the clock) because Bama was happy to let him take them.

I'd rather Wagler, Boswell or the Ivisics take those shots.

Disappointing, but I'm very optimistic about the year. Get the injured guys to gel. I'm a bit concerned about Hum. I know he hit some late, but I just don't want to see him taking 8 a game.
I'm not concerned at all. Ben has been playing extremely good defense, crashing the boards and hitting some big shots. Honestly (and surprisingly), he's been one of our more reliable, consistent players. Earning his minutes... if you ask me...

Look. We’re still far from 100% healthy and have yet to even really gel. This is a learning opportunity. Sucks we could have (and should have) stolen it. But little things in the second half really killed us. Hell, our two big guys didn’t even play most of the game.

We have the pieces. But need to come together.
Seeing our first full practice was Sunday……chew on that for a second….. I can’t wait to see what we look like in January. As painful as it is to watch us play like tonight, we just need to accept the reality that we are not where we want to be and we are going to be better in all facets in a month. Might lose some games that we shouldn’t in the meantime. Hard pill to swallow, but we have no choice!

I, uh, did not like Z taking the shots tonight. It was not his night. Really wasn't Keaton's either and he took 9 shots as is.

Learning moment for Keaton tonight, he played a ton, but he looked gassed at times.

Great atmosphere tonight and a great date night with the wife.

-free throws. Make them.
-we stopped running.
-Bama runs everytime and we got beat too much. Even on makes. Right out of the net and gone. I wish we'd do that more.
-too loose with the ball.
-I didn't think we fought in the glass.
-boy, from my seat, there were some bs calls against out boys.

All in all, this team is good. Bama is good. Once this team plays more together, they will be dangerous.
