Just glanced at the stats now and woof, Z and Tomi combined for 1 shot attempt inside the arc. Not great for the 7 footers. Hope they are getting healthy cause we need them. Yep lots of things to work on, but if the d gets right we have a great team.

Context is Alabama is again going to be one of the highest scoring teams in the country. They have talent and Nate Oats its a fantastic coach. Getting stops against them is pretty freaking hard and if it's anything like last year 90 points could be under their season average.
So we just accept that and hope we don’t run into a team with a JT Toppin or Bama? We gave up a lot to Tech too.

If you are wanting Final 4, you can’t just accept the average.

My only point is, we have a gap to address. Hopefully scheming can do that like Purdue did.

I will say this again. Bama was switching everything in the second half. And Illinois had mismatches in the lane. For the most part they were unable to take advantage. Credit goes to the smaller and quicker defenders from Alabama.

I’m longing for a 6’10” long, athletic big who can be a disrupter on D. CoHawk was decent at this but we need a guy like Bol Bowen. Tomi is just too slow and is tall but not a guy offensive players are going to fear in the lane IMO. Z has some of this but not at a level we need to be able to get past the Sweet 16.

People really focusing on the wrong negative. Our 3 pt defense was brutal. Frankly, I thought they missed more wide open looks than contested ones.
I dunno. My impression was that they were getting open looks because they were shooting from WELL behind the line. (Apart from some pretty kick outs off dribble drives).
I think we can live with teams shooting from that far back. (It annoyed me when CH used to take those.)

I was talking to a buddy of mine who's a big Bama fan and watched the game as well as the Purdue game.
On the rebounding he was expecting Illinois to beat the pulp out of Bama after watching the Purdue game. He said Illinois surprised him at how soft we are..
ttsk...."Soft"...that hurts
Same buddy said he thought that Illini offense was flowing incredibly well early in the game before Andrej got on a streak...it was impressive to him individually but he thought it started a more passive flow from our offense after that. Ill need to re watch.

I know we had 5 turnovers in a 5 minute stretch in first half that changed the momentum. It is also telling that the twins had so little inside production.

Individual stats are great if it translates to Ws...ie. Andrej. We need more balanced inside attack..esp .when that should be our advantage in the matchup.

One could argue two of our 3 best defenders on the roster were out for the game. Ty or Brandon Lee could have helped against Philon. Also think they are some of the better athletes on the team.

Bud light and ultras were 13 for 16 oz.

Also there’s a billion places around the UC to eat. Unless you’re pressed on time, it’s not only way cheaper but way better to eat outside.
Oh we got our fill beforehand for that reason, starting at 4 lol. Still needed the halftime refresher but that was it.
