We did this last year and Alabama was left out in favor of SMU.
That wasn't the SEC championship game that propelled Bama to 3 losses.

The SEC and B1G should have both teams from their championship game in the playoffs. It would start a massive fissure if another 10-2 SEC team got in after not making the Championship game.

I'm sorry but that's just not happening IMO.

Making the SEC Champ game is almost a curse at this point for Bama. Generally curious why you think Texas would jump Miami in an idle week? Hard to see Texas making it in at this point.
The U is already at 12 so would be the last team in. Texas is 13 so would move in if Bama moves out. Just going strictly by the rankings.

You aren't accounting for the two teams outside of the top 12 who are going to take up spots... the ACC champ and the highest ranked non P4 conference champ.

Need to really be top 10 to get a seat at the table.

Yep forgot about those two. Senior moment. I still think Bama will be out if they lose.

So they totally moved Bama above ND because they realized they need to justify keeping them in if BYU manages to beat Tech right? I mean, this past week Bama barely edged out a bad Auburn team and ND cruised, so it doesn't really make sense just on the basis of how they played in the past week.

I would be pissed if I was ND. Makes zero sense to flip them other than favoritism. Big picture the resumes are similar enough where you could make a case for either one to be ranked higher. But it really undermines the process when you determine ND should be ranked higher then flip it when nothing substantial happened.

At the very least it's bad optics. Maybe the CFP should not release any rankings until the playoffs if they are not going to be internally consistent from week-to-week. I think there is definitely an argument for Bama over ND, but that argument did not get stronger in the intervening weak.

If the ACC, B12, ND, etc...wanted to go with the SEC on playoff reformat, I say too bad to all of them. They had the opportunity to get guaranteed slots, they passed. I say, let em crash.

I hope the SEC gets, 6, 7 you name it, the more the merrier in the playoffs.

I'm thinking I prefer the SEC's preferred CPF format - seed the best 12 (or 16, or 20 - whatever that number ends up being) and let the chips fall where they may. If anyone is thinking the American Conference, or the MAC, or even the watered down ACC is going to win a playoff game, never mind a natty, they're simply delusional. I see the issue with the plan because of the perception of the SEC being the "best conference" and will garner a majority of the playoff slots, and that's a reality to be dealt with. But this exercise of including marginal teams into the payoff is lunacy. Of course if the SEC's path is chosen, we're back to the old days of the AP/UP polls, except the national champion has to win a couple games to actually be declared the champion.

Until the days of “8-4 teams in the SEC are the best because they only lost to teams in the SEC” mantra ends, I will full fight against any playoff format that allows 6 to 8 teams from one conference being in the playoffs.

If college football wants to start doing big ten/SEC challenge similar to the big ten /ACC challenge in basketball, then great. But rankings are so overly inflated in the SEC, it makes me puke.

Wondering from a legal perspective if a school like ND getting frozen out could lead to legal action down the way as it regards the ESPN/SEC/CFP cabal. It's quite clear they are all in bed together & the interests of one serves the interest of all. What does it take for that to rise to the level of violating anti trust, monopolistic practices or some other claim?

I ask purely from curiosity as I am an accountant & not a lawyer. And I know there's a line somewhere between just being ruthless in business & committing acts subject to civil penalties. Not sure where the line is drawn but as a layman it seems this present arrangement could end up in a court room sometime in the next few years. So much money on the table & it seems 1 party is in a position to rig the system at the exclusion of others.

They had 2 tough games and lost both of them. Their marquee win was 10 point home victory against USC. IMO - they deserve to be left out.

Thats a valid point, but like I said, the resume is not the issue. The committee decided ND should be ranked ahead of Bama. But a week later, with nothing substantial happening, the committee changed its mind and flipped them. That throws up some serious red flags IMO.
