The way I see this is the SEC will get 5 teams. TAMU, Georgia, Ole Miss, Bama and Oklahoma. ACC will get 1. B1G will get three and the Big 12 will get 1 if Tech wins. Add one from a non power 4 team which leaves 1 spot for either ND or BYU.
Feels like they will put Bama in regardless to me. Committee is about money, brands, and eyeballs. Can't say I blame them. Just how it is.Bama at 9 tells me they have to win Saturday. Texas moves in with a Bama loss.
We did this last year and Alabama was left out in favor of SMU.Feels like they will put Bama in regardless to me. Committee is about money, brands, and eyeballs. Can't say I blame them. Just how it is.
Just like UNC making the NCAA tourney last year to me.
That wasn't the SEC championship game that propelled Bama to 3 losses. We did this last year and Alabama was left out in favor of SMU.
Making the SEC Champ game is almost a curse at this point for Bama. Generally curious why you think Texas would jump Miami in an idle week? Hard to see Texas making it in at this point.Bama at 9 tells me they have to win Saturday. Texas moves in with a Bama loss.
The U is already at 12 so would be the last team in. Texas is 13 so would move in if Bama moves out. Just going strictly by the rankings.Making the SEC Champ game is almost a curse at this point for Bama. Generally curious why you think Texas would jump Miami in an idle week? You aren't accounting for the two teams outside of the top 12 who are going to take up spots... the ACC champ and the highest ranked non P4 conference champ. The U is already at 12 so would be the last team in. Texas is 13 so would move in if Bama moves out. Just going strictly by the rankings.
I loss like that hasn't hurt Alabama, (Florida St.)On Texas: The Florida loss will keep them out, full stop. The Committee said as much last night.
Yep forgot about those two. Senior moment. I still think Bama will be out if they lose. You aren't accounting for the two teams outside of the top 12 who are going to take up spots... the ACC champ and the highest ranked non P4 conference champ.
Need to really be top 10 to get a seat at the table.
That FSU loss has hurt Alabama, in that it's logically grouped with other 2 loss teams.I loss like that hasn't hurt Alabama, (Florida St.)
So they totally moved Bama above ND because they realized they need to justify keeping them in if BYU manages to beat Tech right? I mean, this past week Bama barely edged out a bad Auburn team and ND cruised, so it doesn't really make sense just on the basis of how they played in the past week.
They won't punish losses in conference championship games, certainly if it means ND is in who is sitting at home.Yep forgot about those two. Senior moment. I still think Bama will be out if they lose.
At the very least it's bad optics. Maybe the CFP should not release any rankings until the playoffs if they are not going to be internally consistent from week-to-week. I think there is definitely an argument for Bama over ND, but that argument did not get stronger in the intervening weak.I would be pissed if I was ND. Makes zero sense to flip them other than favoritism. Big picture the resumes are similar enough where you could make a case for either one to be ranked higher. But it really undermines the process when you determine ND should be ranked higher then flip it when nothing substantial happened.
If the ACC, B12, ND, etc...wanted to go with the SEC on playoff reformat, I say too bad to all of them. They had the opportunity to get guaranteed slots, they passed. I say, let em crash.I would be pissed if I was ND. Makes zero sense to flip them other than favoritism. Would love to see Notre Dame left out
Until the days of “8-4 teams in the SEC are the best because they only lost to teams in the SEC” mantra ends, I will full fight against any playoff format that allows 6 to 8 teams from one conference being in the playoffs.I'm thinking I prefer the SEC's preferred CPF format - seed the best 12 (or 16, or 20 - whatever that number ends up being) and let the chips fall where they may. If anyone is thinking the American Conference, or the MAC, or even the watered down ACC is going to win a playoff game, never mind a natty, they're simply delusional. I see the issue with the plan because of the perception of the SEC being the "best conference" and will garner a majority of the playoff slots, and that's a reality to be dealt with. But this exercise of including marginal teams into the payoff is lunacy. Of course if the SEC's path is chosen, we're back to the old days of the AP/UP polls, except the national champion has to win a couple games to actually be declared the champion.

They had 2 tough games and lost both of them. Their marquee win was 10 point home victory against USC. IMO - they deserve to be left out.
