Wow. Political statement that ND needs to join a conference or schedule better teams. I’m just surprised that it comes now

The problem is that they scheduled good teams and they are affiliated with, ostensibly, a P4 conference. They only played 2 non-P4 teams.

The only justification is the one H-2H matchup, in week 1, that Miami won by 3 points at home. Pretty weak reason to flip their rankings at the last second.

Looking at the metrics, Notre Dame was the 3rd (Sagarin), 5th (SP+), 3rd (FPI), or 3rd (SRS) best team in college football, and there was somehow no room for them in a 12-team playoff where 5 SEC teams made it, despite there not being a top 5 SEC team in any of those metrics.

That's what's broken.

Apparently they only considered head to head if teams are ranked in consecutive spots. Last week BYU was between ND and Miami so head to head was not factored in. With BYU dropping it now brought head to head between ND and Miami into play.

You could not put ND in over Miami. Miami literally beat ND.
Don’t have any strong opinions about this either way but the committee should have swapped their rankings when these two teams played their last games. I know the whole picture matters and the teams that these two teams play continue to earn wins and losses but if it really just came down to a head to head match they already had that data.

Miami beat them head to head. Plus ND's schedule after September was crap. I wonder if our Illini would have gotten in if they had beaten Washington & Wiscy and ended up 10-2? Illini beat two conference champions, Western Michigan & Duke!
I can only hope that we would have bumped a 3 loss Bama.

The inconsistency with that logic is that Alabama wasn't dropped for losing, but BYU was. Alabama got bumped over ND last week for squeaking by a terrible Auburn team, and then didn't drop from getting blasted by a good Georgia team.
